Had first Zometa infusion this week
 

I wanted to get back to you, Gerri and Barbara, as I had my first Zometa infusion on Tuesday. As you said, it only took a short time, about 30 minutes, and they hydrated me along with it.

There were no side effects right away and I felt energetic the whole day. But, as I watched "American Idol" in the evening, I began to feel an achy twinge here and there and in the middle of the night I felt muscle aches and flu-like symptoms and I had chills and was miserable.

So, yesterday I stayed in bed and just took things slowly. Today I am much better and back at it again. After reading what Jean wrote about the benefits of bisphosphonates and reduction in recurrence rates, I'm really glad I decided to do this.

Hopefully, my second one in six months will be better and at least I'll know what to expect and manage it accordingly with Tylenol.

I'm so glad your side effects were not too bad.My onc says the first dose is the hardest and the SE's get better with each dose. I hope so since I'm going back for my second round next week.

Hi Vicki Girl!

I was the same way with my first Zometa but it never happened that way again. I even got a 101 fever. Second dose was non-eventful and I have been getting them every 6 months since Nov 2005. I go for my next one May 22.

You'll probably be fine next time.

So glad to hear that things went relatively well with your first infusion. The aches and flu-like symptoms are pretty common from what I understand. Like you, I am so glad that I'm getting Zometa considering the extra benefits the recent research has shown. Did your insurance end up paying for it?

Can you fill me in on the benefits of zometa please? I'm not very compliant with my fosamax and every morning as I run in the dark I promise I'll do better. My onc briefly mentioned it as a replacement but didn't seem gung ho about it.

I took a quick look and found this link. Also, try to search for research by Dr. Gnat and Zoledronic Acid (Zometa), that is where you will find the most info. Hope this helps.
