John Hopkins cancer info please read
Hi Guys, Here is a good article I got from my sister,
John Hopkins Update - Good article AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY ('TRY', BEING THE KEY WORD) TO ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY. Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins : 1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size. 2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime. 3 When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors. 4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.. 5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system. 6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastrointestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc. 7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs. 8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction. 9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications. 10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites. 11. An effective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply. CANCER CELLS FEED ON: a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in color. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt. b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk cancer cells are being starved. c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer. d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C). e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it. 12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines becomes putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup. 13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells. 14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the bodies own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells. 15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life. 16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells. 1. No plastic containers in micro. 2. No water bottles in freezer. 3. No plastic wrap in microwave. Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well. Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic. Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Cast le Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Pa per isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons. Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food. Cover food with a paper towel instead. This is an article that should be sent to anyone important in your life. Snufi |
Amen!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for sharing this article--it contains much of the information I learned through research due to my own condition! I opted for NO CHEMO and went head to head with my own onco before choosing my treatment! So far--so good!

Unfortunately...
This is an e-mail hoax.
Johns Hopkins issued a news release in December 2008 referring to this information. They even note the misspelling of their name, John Hopkins when in fact it is Johns Hopkins. I'm sorry to have to pass this - but Johns Hopkins is also asking people to combat the spread of this hoax. You can find it by going on the Johns Hopkins website - www.jhsph.edu/dioxins It can be found along with an article about another e-mail hoax on cooking with plastics in microwave ovens and freezing water in plastic bottles. Email Hoax: "Cancer Update from John Hopkins" Updated December 2008 http://s7.addthis.com/static/btn/lg-share-en.gif Mythbusting at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center EMAIL HOAX REGARDING CANCER Information falsely attributed to Johns Hopkins called, "CANCER UPDATE FROM JOHN HOPKINS" describes properties of cancer cells and suggests ways of preventing cancer. Johns Hopkins did not publish the information, which often is an email attachment, nor do we endorse its contents. The email also contains an incorrect spelling of our institution as "John" Hopkins whereas the correct spelling is "Johns" Hopkins. For more information about cancer, please read the information on our web site or visit the National Cancer Institute's web site at www.cancer.gov. Please help combat the spread of this hoax by letting others know of this statement. Another hoax email that has been circulating since 2004 regarding plastic containers, bottles, wrap claiming that heat releases dioxins which cause cancer also was not published by Johns Hopkins. More information from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Check back here for more information on this topic. While some of the info shared may resonate as smart advice, this has been purported as a hoax email that has gone around the internet for a few years.

Louise, you and I think alike! LOL, posting the exact same thing at the exact same time...

This Johns Hopkins "hoax" email was posted on this site sometime around a couple of years ago and we went through this then.
Just because it SAYS it is from John Hopkins people don't doubt it or check on the Johns Hopkins website, which did have a disclaimer about this email. (Did not look to see if it still does.) That disclaimer said something about it being irresponsible to perpetuate this and to try and stop it. Their doctors refuted several points of that message. This is just one more reason our doctors warn against "swallowing whole" information circulated on the internet, since we are NOT researchers or people with the years of schooling that will trigger when information circulated is bogus. |
And even if JH had written this, even if it hadn't been a hoax, they would be wrong! I did all the right things, eat the right diet (because of multiple food allergies), know how to handle stress & fears, but still developed cancer.
It's not nearly that simple. Jacqueline |

OK--I realize the sensitivity here and totally understand that many choose to rely totally on the info which the FDA and medical professionals dole out-- that is fine, but not what everyone else believes. I do not believe the original poster meant any harm; despite the fact that the article WAS NOT from Johns Hopkins, much of the information regarding cancer is deemed to be true by others. I personally would not take any information from any so-called reputable source and deem it to be true without further investigation--but then again, that is my nature and research is what I have historically been paid for.
This is not a simple matter by any means -- many of us have had to make life-altering decisions regardless and have had to use common sense and do our own research in order to better choose which treatment is best. It is foolish to rely solely on so-called "scientific" studies, which at best are biased and influenced by the corporations who manufacture many chemos, as well as the opinions of educated oncologists whose task is to educate us with all of the information they are taught, within their given guidelines. I do not fault them for what they present as true--they are only giving their opinions as well, and are only able to afford us information they are told within certain parameters (or else risk losing their licenses to practice); however, it would have been totally irresponsible for me to just take their word for everything. Please note that I have first-hand experience with this, and God gave me a brain and common sense as well as the ability to weed out the nonsensical, and through His grace I was able to intelligently discuss my decision with the doctors. In my case, chemo would have been overkill and the cumulative effects devastating to say the least. Kudos for those of you who opted for chemo--God bless you! Many of my personal friends opted for chemo--many did not, and those who did not are living proof. Have a great day all! About me: 53 years young! August, 2008: Mammogram, xrays, blood workup ordered by my internist. Referred to W&I Breast Health Center for further eval. 10/10/08: Core biopsy of right breast. T4 N1 Mx ER+/PR+/HER2neu+ Bone scan and bone density: unremarkable, normal. 10/20/08: Breast MRI – confirmed 3 large tumors and several smaller. 10/27/08- CT Scan (abdomen, thorax, pelvis) 11/7/08: MRI - abdomen: 4.3x4.3x5.1 cm and 7x7x10 mm hepatic masses; now confirmed Stage 4 11/08/08: Tumor Markers: CEA = 60.2 CA 15-3 = 122 11/08/08: Mugo testing: heart is healthy 11/10/08: Meeting with onco and surgeon: Recommended usual protocol of chemo, mastectomy, etc. 11/20/08: Add'l meeting with onco and surgeon. I informed them I would not do chemo, but would however receive Herceptin alone every three weeks and take Arimidex daily. 12/01/08: Started Herceptin treatment and continue every three weeks. 12/08/08: Started daily Arimidex. 03/03/09: CT scan: All tumors diminished in size approx. 22%. Tumor Markers: CEA = 41.2 CA 15-3 = 79 |

Oh here we go again !! Even if the actual circulating e-mail mentioned may be a hoax some of the information in it is good common sense, like eating healthy etc. It can't hurt to take some of the advice about eating healthy and adapt it to one's life style and use it wisely and to one's advantage. I got some of the same advice from my doctor's about food that is in that e-mail.
There is alot of bogus information going around about chemotherapy too. We just have to discuss as many of these things as we can with our doctors and work together to the best of our abilities to achieve our health goals. |
Hi Snufi-
I hope you will close this thread and if you like, re-post it as your opinion. I'm afraid that people may not realize the email is a hoax and is not from Hopkins at all. I am not trying to criticize you or your opinion, I just object to something being misunderstood as "issued by John Hopkins". Hope you understand. --Flori |
It is a shame
That these types of e mail hoax have such a life span....it only fuels the fear of treatment, that in fact maybe life saving.
Very important to check all information that is found on the internet and verify it. Yes, while some of the information makes sense re: Good eating habits, consider the person who is on the fence making treatment decsions and uses this information to make a treatment decision. Shame.... Jean |
Hi Betty - in solidarity with Flori's comments, I would like to gently offer that you consider your "the info regarding cancer is true" as being actually based on your opinion... not necessarily true by scientific standards.
I would agree that a few of the lifestyle suggestions are great suggestions, in my opinion. But that doesn't erase that the email is a famous internet hoax. |

Her 2 brothers and sisters.
Such material that we think may intend to put fear into the minds of some cancer patients may have the protection of the first admendment of the U. S. constitution to free speech. I am not exactly saying that kind of material is a good thing, but it is what it is and we can't do anything about it, except ignore it if we don't agree with it. It is up to us to do with it what we like with the material. We are all smart people who have experience with cancer. We can decide for ourselves which parts of it if any we wish to take for our use. As for me I have used complementary medicine for 10 years. I have never done the conventional treatment without the complementary medicine that I researched or was suggested by my docs. Some of the things they advised me to do are in the e-mail. I take the best of all worlds and make it mine. I was given 6 months to live 10 years ago. I would say complementary medicine is working well for me. |

My intention is not to upset anyone, but I forgot to mention there have always been alternative ways to treat almost all health problems know to humans.
I like to think of them as more choices or options on the health care menu. There was probably a time when chemo was considered an alternative treatment to other treatments that were available a long time ago. Now we can benefit from things like Herceptin and Tykerb, which are newer than most kinds of chemo. Maybe they were considered "alternative" when they were in the development stage. They are usually used with chemo, but there may come a time when new and better targeted treatments and vaccines will be used without chemo, which may then be considered old fashioned. Medicine is always moving forward with new ideas and ways to treat disease. That is a good thing. Just a little "food" for thought. |
E - if I may speak for others, I believe that many, if not most, of us here also subscribe to some sort of complimentary supplements and treatments, so we are in solidarity, and not in disagreement at all with that aspect...
What tends to make much of the info suspect and potentially wicked is that it was written by someone who desired to deceive on many levels, otherwise they wouldn't have misrepresented it as coming from Johns Hopkins. I would offer that factual or scientifically sound info would have been written and footnoted and presented throughout either the medical or Naturopathic cancer community. To be fair, some of it has been circulated through other avenues and is either common knowledge or believed to be valid. Some of the info would fall into the category of personal beliefs, and a good portion of it would probably fall into the category of hooey. True, it is each individual's responsibility to do their own research and work these things out for themselves, but it is also our responsibility on this forum to look out for each other, and I think that is what we are trying to do. |
Intentions can be misguided
I think Snufi's sister was well-meaning and trying to help her sister in a cancer battle. I felt that was the case with the person who passed this email to me some time back.
And I still get emails that contain hoax info on various subjects from several people who are not normally stupid about things and are well-meaning. If I think a message is suspicious, I do check it and let the sender know it is indeed a hoax. Those people are smart enough to then go ahead and email back to those that got the hoax with another message that it was a hoax and sorry to have bothered them with it. Hopefully by being informed that a message is a hoax, no matter if it seems to have some info that makes sense, one will either stop passing it along and inform the original sender of the hoax. |
The fact that this hoax contains a few common sense suggestions only makes it more problematic. It may cause people to assume that all of the information is accurate.
To check out the facts you can go to Snopes.com and enter Johns Hopkins. I always do that when I receive questionable information. |
