A little update

My pleurisy pain is gone, thanks to a huge dose of steroids. Problem is, trying to come off the steroids, I'm having terrible back spazms that push to my chest with each heartbeat. God, that's so scary, I thought, uh oh this is it. Been mostly laying on the heating pad and doing nothing but at least I haven't had the spasms for a day. Hopefully, I'm getting better. I remember when I was first doing chemo, I would have to get a shot after every treatment and Iwould get these spasms but I don't remember them going clear to my chest bone. Lord,, if it's not one thing it's another.
I was reading your replies to me and sitting here crying thinking how fortunate I am that so many people care.
Thank you so much, I love you all.
Hugs
Susan

Susan glad that the pain is going away, but I'm sorry to hear about your spasms that your having. prayers continue for you.

Aww shoot Susan. If its not one thing its another. Maybe you can go off the steroids even more slowly than you are supposed to. Call you doc for more pills. We do this because my youngest daughter (17 yrs) is asthmatic and every now and then has to go on predinose, usually during bad colds etc. We go the slow route now when coming off because its so bad when we did it quicker.

Although I have no experience with it personally, I've kinda seen it first hand.

I'm thinking about you.

Hey Susan-
When I've had similar pain (and after going to the ER cause I thought it was a girl heart attack - many years ago) I found out it was my esophagus in spasm. It was a form of reflux - but not the traditional feeling of heartburn - it was this stabbing pain that had a rhythm to it and pretty much non-stop. You could try an OTC prilosec and see if you get relief. I can't remember for sure if steroids also trash your gastro track but they might trash and then mask the symptoms all at the same time. That seems to ring a bell in my mind. Hope you are feeling better. One thing after another is so discouraging and hard to take. Hope today is better!

Good to hear the pleurisy pain is gone Susan, maybe go a little slower getting off those steroids though??

Just want you to know your birthday buddy Tricia K is thinking of you and praying things get better! Those spasms really sound scary. Are you sure they are from the steroids? Be sure your doctor knows all you are going through. If he doesn't seem sympathetic and you can't get a second opinion, try talking to a Nurse Practioner or Physician's Assistant, if he has one in his office. I find most doctors do have such assistants, and they are usually less busy and much more apt to listen and pay heed than the doctors. I find that oncology nurses are really caring too, like angels actually! Please let us know how things go, and remember you are loved on this website. Hugs, Tricia
