LOW, low platelets Taxatere& Carboplatin,anyone?

Hello fellow her2 friends,
Happy new year! (Hope you had a nice new year's celebration- I was booked at the treatment center new years eve.) I have had 2 treatment cycles of Herceptin,Taxatere, and Carboplatin. After the 2nd cycle, my platelets just dropped to 43. SCARY for me! I have had drops in platelets on Gemzar too, but this is the lowest I have ever been!!
I have been on Taxanes before (including Taxatere) and always had normal levels of platelets. Have you seen low, low platelets with Carboplatin such as 43?
Did you ever receive a dose reduction in Carboplatin due to low platelets?
How soon did platelets return to normal? - Lida, "Petrified by Platelets"

Hello Lida,

I took my last Taxotere, Carboplatin chemo the second week of November, and my platelet count was 54 when they checked my blood the next week.

After my second treatment of these two with Herceptin, I had to start taking a shot to make my counts come up. I think the name of the shot was Neulasta. I also had to start taking two units of blood. The blood made me feel better.

I had my platelet count on December the 24, and the count had come back up to 241, and I did not take a shot this time.

Please let me know how you are doing.

Lida,

I do not know why scan-quest is on the screen, but my platelet count was 241.

My platelets dipped down with every TCH treatment for about ten days, starting a week after the dose. I was prescribed antibiotics for those days, and everything was fine. I think many people experience this. Talk to your oncologist. There are various ways to manage it.
