I was sooo sick on Christmas night

It was so strange. I'm done with chemo, my last herceptin was the 22nd (could it be that??).

Thought it might have been something I ate, but no one else was sick. I haven't been that sick since I was a kid!! Chemo included! I was dry heaving for 2 hours! I NEVER do that!

Thank God I had some of that phenergan that you rub into your wrists. It just seemed to take forever to take effect. I have NEVER been this sick in my adult life. What in the WORLD?? Next day, it was like nothing happened. I was fine! Just sore muscles from puking up my socks.

Believe51 12-29-2008 09:10 AM

Could it be the 2 beers back to back??(lol) Only kidding My Sweet, I am so sorry that you could not enjoy the holidays as much as you should have. Glad you are feeling better now. If I was you I would do something special for yourself; between being sick and the completion of the nasty stuff, you certainly deserve it.

Yorkiegirl 12-29-2008 09:14 AM

Terri, I sure know what your talking about. On the 23rd, I woke up at 3:00AM, and and it was coming from both ends. Like you I wasn't even this sick when on Chemo. Mine lasted 48 hrs.

My whole body hurt so much from throwing up.

I'm sorry you were so sick.

My Doc said there was Tummy Virus going around. WELL I must have had it for two people. LOL

Terri B 12-29-2008 09:18 AM

Yorkie, 48 hours??? Wow!

Mine was the same as I was awakened by it at 1:00 am. Weird. But it was gone as quickly as it came. Could that be a tummy virus? Hmmm.

Believe, thanks for that... I think i WILL have a couple! ;)

Rich66 12-29-2008 09:27 AM

I suggest cutting back on the socks;)

'cause we love you! I could not resist with the 2 beer comment, I chuckled before I wrote it and just couldn't hold back! Hoping you will be hugging that little one in no time! Lot's of love>>Believe51

Hey now, don't knock the 2 beers diet unless you've tried it. Really. It works! :D

harrie 12-30-2008 12:48 AM

Terri, glad the flu came and went quickly. It is realliy going around. Mine was pretty short. I think it lasted 3 days, but wasn't too bad.

There certainly are a lot of different bugs going around. I'm sorry you had to be sick on the holiday and glad to hear your better.

StephN 12-30-2008 01:55 PM

Hey Terri -
Hope your muscles are no longer sore and you can eat and drink and be merry once again.

About that 2-beer diet. I can't drink more than HALF a beer without feeling full. Maybe it depends on what KIND of beer, but we usually have a few bottles of micro-brew around for my brother-in-law or for hot days of yard work.

Maybe try cutting to 1 and 1/2 and see if it has the same effect. Would be curious.

Believe51 12-30-2008 02:05 PM

Think it will work with my 'Chocolate Martini's'?? I am willing to give it a try (wink)>>Believe51

Sweet Pea Terri-B, I'm sorry to hear about your crummy Christmas Eve. I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better now, and just a side note to your post. I feel that all of our posts help someone, somewhere, even if it's ourselves. Your mention of the phenergan that you rub on your wrists is new to me, and as y'all know, I'm an expert on everything, and I've never heard of that, and I bet you've helped a large percentage of others with that little tid-bit. Hope you have a much better New Years!

WomanofSteel 12-30-2008 09:07 PM

Sorry you were sick for the holidays. Hope the New Year starts out better for you!

Terri B 12-31-2008 07:23 AM

Thanks all for the well wishes! Yes! I feel much better! Ready to ring in the new year with 2 beers back to back! :D

Steph, being 6 feet tall, it takes at least 2 beers to even reach my stomach, so... Unlike you sweet petitees, I don't get as much mileage out of my beer!

Bill, I was given the wrist-phenergan after one of my surgeries. It was hard to find, as walgreens didn't carry it. Also, my insurance didn't cover it. It was about $18 for 6 doses. well worth the money when you really need it, and MUCH more desirable than the dreaded suppository! Man, talk about kicking someone when they're down! ;P

freyja 12-31-2008 01:57 PM

Me too!

I just read your post, had missed it before, but I had a very similar experience. I had my last chemo 12/5 and a 3week dose of Herceptin 12/12 and on Christmas Eve I was making cookies for Santa with my son and I got a HORRIBLE case of diarrhea. I never experienced anything like it during chemo. It was there for the day and gone the next. I think either a strong likelihood of a bug, or we were having chemo withdrawl!
Hope our New Year is better than our Christmas. If I could get rid of this cold that's been bugging me all month I'd be great.

Terri B 12-31-2008 02:00 PM

Freyja, if you're like me, you are probably wondering if that "cold" might be some Herceptin side effect!

freyja 01-01-2009 03:54 PM

Ah hah,

I hadn't really realized that, but that's a possibility isn't it. Well, in that case, only about 8 more months of this "cold". Hope you're feeling a lot better this year!

Hi Terri, I just ran across an article that said we are having a mild flu season but the "norovirus" is really making the rounds. After reading this article I think this may be what hit you? Sounds like it comes on fast and is really nasty! Here's a link if you want to read it. (Freja, you too.) Glad your both feeling better.

i really worry about the norovirus since i work in a school cafeteria. reading some articles normal sanitizing doesn't always kill it. is this the next superbug?
