Living Proof ~ Movie about Dr. who helped develop Herceptin!

On October 18, 2008 Lifetime will air docudrama Living Proof. Script is based on the nonfiction best seller Her-2, which chronicles Dr. Dennis Slamon's fight for new breast cancer drug Hercepitn. Also, Her-2 and Herceptin was mentioned in an article in TIME mag. Sept.15. 2008. When I mention Her-2 or Herceptin most people look at me and say you have what, or what is herceptin? This even happens when you go to the doc. with something unrelated to cancer. Maybe word will get out and we won't have to explain ourselves as much!

Welcome and thanks for the info. We are all excited about the TV program on breast cancer Oct. 1 at 10 pm on PBS. The one you mentioned here sounds great. I'll be sure to watch it.

I am very excited to see the movie, more so since Stephanie and I got to meet the great Dr. Slamon this past spring (thanks to Joe and Christine). I love Harry Connick Jr., but meeting him could not have been any better than meeting the real doctor. I was totally floored (as I know Stephanie was too). To me, this was just short of meeting God. I thanked and hugged him and he thanked us. I just couldn't fathom that he was thanking us. I was in tears. It was definitely one of the most important moments of my life. Thanks for the reminder...and welcome!!!

Shoot, YES!

Yes, Maryann -
that was a pretty special moment - hearing Dr. Slamon give his talk and then lining up with all the other researchers and folks to get a personal handshake or hug (he was only hugging US as I recall).

Having met him before, I never cease to be amazed at the new material he presents or the dedication he has to our cause.

I will never forget Joe and his crack about referring to us as The Slamon Girls (a takeoff on Obama Girls)! We all laughed and it took the edge off the moment in anticipation of a personal moment with the good doctor.

He even bypassed a couple of other people when he saw Christine as he had to hurry away. WE were given his time instead of others. Guess he like to remind himself that there IS "living proof!"

Me Too! Me Too!!

ME TOO! I am so excited about the upcoming movie(s) -- PBS and Lifetime. Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't sure of the dates or channels.

I ALSO HAD THE ELATION OF MEETING DENNY SLAMON. In the doc's office. We hugged (with me standing on kitten heels on the step leading to the examination table). As I stood (all 5'2" of me to his 6' 4"??? I swear we were kind of nose to nose!

And yes, he was as ecstatic to meet one of his SUCCESSES as I was to meet MY HERO. I thanked him for saving my life. I rattled off that I had lived to see my 2nd dghtr married and to greet 5 grandchildren (having none when dx). We giggled and chatted. You are what all my research and work are all about, he said. Then he turned and give credit to Dr. Mark Pegram who was standing in the room with me and DH Paul.

I was like ELVIS WAS IN THE BUILDING! Paul and I were on such a high for our encounter for at least the rest of the day. I felt electrified.

All of us who benefited from Slamon's remarkable accomplishments can never have adequate words to thank him!
