After posting in response to Joy's situation, deceided to make it a new thread.
I would love it if folks would run this list by their oncs and see if they have resources to more fully investigate these potential treatments:

Rexin-G has been used/approved in Phillipine (Asian Hospital, Manilla) trials for met cancers for a couple years. They tell me limited use with bc but there is a bc trial in Santa Monica CA currently recruiting in a phase I/II trial. I have talked with the research coordinator. They are well underway trying different dosage levels. My mom doesn't qualify..no previous chemo, abnmormal liver function tests exclude her. There is the Lazerex foundation that can help with $$.

There is a human trial in England finishing by end of year on Doxorubicin followed by Zolendronate. Significant survival benefit in mice results. I have made some e-mail contact with the lead researcher. Could this be done off label?:

There is the LIFT trial gearing up for human phase 1 http://www1.wfubmc.edu/LIFT This could be huge based on mice tests but no human data yet.

Writer of article suggests in e-mail to me that an independent onc could get this going? Supposedly N. Yamamoto is talking with Harvard med. I have a friend in Philly looking into the "Socrates Institute.." but says address is in a lower income residential area. Maybe all the research is in Japan? I e-mailed Yamamoto. No bounce back but no reply.

Celebrex
 

I can tell you about my "treatment" with Celebrex. After finishing chemo, my onc said he would start me on Arimidex and also Celebrex. This was spring 2003; he said there was some research suggesting that celebrex may shut down the Cox 2, plus the drug may help with any aches/pains that may arise from taking Arimidex.

I took 400 mg twice daily, which is quite a healthy dose, I believe. I took it for about 13 months and finally figured out it was making me ill. (Of course not everyone may respond that way.) I had total brain fog and big time lethargy. As soon as I stopped the Celebrex I felt MUCH better.

But in the meantime, I hoped that I had taken it long enough, plus at the same time as Arimidex, to perhaps do some good.

This is the comment I got from Dr. Pegram when I asked him in the spring of 07, if Celebrex was worth trying:

If you do it sporadically once in a while, it’s not going to help at all. The standard dose of Celebrex doesn’t work in breast cancer. There’s still some question about the high dose, but these drugs could cause cardio-vascular mortality so if you don’t have metastatic disease I probably wouldn’t recommend it. High dose: 400 bid. If you’re in remission, you should not take Cox 2 inhibitors.
