tamoxifen

Hi All, I was wondering if anyone has had this happen,I have not been very good lately about taking my tamoxifen everyday and up until today had not had a period for almost 18 months well surprise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! could not taking tamoxifen allow ovulation? My friend reminded me that2wks ago I said that if I didn't known better I would think I was ovulating.I was due to have my estrogen levels checked last month but because I have recently been dealing with melanoma and surgery I couldn't handle going to two onc.in 1 wk so I will see my bc onc next month . I am 50 so I really thought that I was done............ thanks for any advice Leslie

This happened to me. I was off Tamoxifen for about 4 wks (because I was going to get an ooph and go on Arimidex which I did do). Onc took me off because of surgery. I got my period (3 wks after I was off and had my surgery a week later). I was almost 47.

Take your Tamoxifen! Or at least tell your onc you are not taking it. Then the onc can at least put you on something else or at least know (and yell at you too)!

30% of women don't take their tamoxifen or AI consistently or at all after 1 yr of diagnosis so you are not alone.

Leslie,

Listen to Becky, she is our "all things hormonal" guru. It really sounds like you are dealing with a lot of scary things, all at the same time, but you really do need to do all you can to keep the monster at bay. I also had melanoma (many years ago) but find it interesting that many of us with bc also had melanoma in the past or are diagnosed with it after our bc dx. One of the BRCA genes increases your risk, but I tested negative for both. I was fortunate in that my melanoma had not spread and all I needed was clear margins on excision. I hope that you are as lucky. Please keep us updated.

Take good care,

Thankyou Becky and Gerri I WILL be back on the tamoxifen train today and not miss a day again and hopefully this will not happen again.I was feeling really good about things being almost 5 years out from dx and the melanoma scared me, I am lucky with both though stage1 bc and 1b mel.no nodes. love to you all Leslie
