Advise and Encouragement - bone mets progress
 

Hi All -

It seems like the markers are beginning to rise again and the bone mets in the spine are on the move. I have been on Abaxane, Herceptin, & Zometa...since April when I also had two doses of Carbo. At that time I was very weak with some liver issues so I had to discontinue the Carbo. Now the doctor said that we may go back to Carbo and switch out Abraxane for Navalbine. She also mentioned radiation as an option but mentioned side effects there as well. I have been on Gemzar in the past and it quit working. This next step is all pending the PET results...so far I have had MRIs and CT scans all pointing to progression.

Has anyone heard about trials / treatments for bone mets? Dr.s doing studies on bones and b/c? It seems like we have the other areas under control for now but the bones (spine) has gotten worse.

Has anyone continued to work full time on Carbo?

The Herceptin MCC DM 1 trial has worked well for me against bone mets.

Hi Carolyn-
I don't know that much about bone mets but it occurred to me that tykerb/xeloda is not on your list so I wanted to mention that combo (along with herceptin). I know it's decent to tolerate and has good results for many. Just a thought.
