I have taken Alpha LIPOIC Acid since it is a powerful antioxident. Not sure if this is the same thing as you asked about. Think I started taking it after finishing treatment for stage IV liver mets.
Did not take that for neuropathy, tho. Used the L-Glutamine powder.

Omega 3 DHA has been reported as being potentially beneficial.

The greek diet thread on Omega 3 and 6 may be of interest. There from memory are trials on the board suggesting synergy between Omega 3s and Herceptin. If you cannot find them let me know and I will try and find them. The work was by Ruth Lupu and Dr Menendez

Please discuss dietary change with your doctor.

supplements

My onc recommended the same supplements as Chrissy's when I was on taxotere/herceptin. I took them and suffered only mild neuropathy, which totally went away within a few months after finishing chemo.

I took alpha lipoic acid while I was on taxol. I had some pretty serious neuropathy problems, and the alpha lipoic acid seemed to help. It is also used for diabetics who have neuropathy issues.

Best,
Monica

Interesting thread. Steph, how does L-Glutamine powder help w/ neuropathy?

And does anyone know if it can be improved even after having it for some time?

I recently have stopped my Enbrel (long story) but it boils down to seeing how my body will respond since the drs. still have no definitive answers about my inflammatory arthritis. Anyway, I am currently not having the joint inflammation but my neuropathy is considerably more noticeable now, especially when I wake up in the morn.

As always, any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Mary -
Really not sure exactly HOW the L-glutimine works in the body - been too long to recall that. I know it DID help me and others.

Stopped at my local supplements store and remembered to ask about the Alpha Lipoid Acid for neuropathy. They said they do recommend it for that problem. Also, the lady clerk said she gives it to her husband who has type 1 diabetes for neuropathy as well as helping kidney function. One more pill for MY hubby! He just rolled his eyes when I told him ...

Guess as time goes on the propeller heads keep finding more uses for these compounds.
