Bill / Lee - a question
I have no idea how to go about it, but I wonder if you guys would be interested in starting a men's support forum on here for husbands/significant others who are the either the well-partner/care giver or the patient?

Hi Brenda -
I wanted to ask Joe about a section for men/support givers as well as a section for teens/college kids. Joe mentioned moving servers and having room to host some smaller groups. I think this is a GREAT idea and really needed. xo Flori |
Brenda:
That is a super idea! When Colleen was diagnosed, I found very little on the internet where men could go and ask questions about what to do, how to be supportive, what to expect, to share their thoughts, concerns and ideas. I asked my brother-in-law (Colleen's sister also had breast cancer) if he would be interested in setting up a website for husband supporters but he was even less aware of how to go about setting up a website than I was. I was hoping to set up something by now, but I vastly underestimated the time and energy required to support a loved one with cancer. Perhaps, a sub-forum on this website may be appropriate. We could call it "Husbands of Breast Cancer Survivors" or something like that so that the web search spiders could find it easier. It may bring more people to this site, which could or could not be a good thing. I don't want to volunteer Bill for anything, but I think we have some good candidates for moderators for the section. So Joe, if there is something I can do to help out, please let me know. It would be an honor to give something back to this great community. Lee |
And something to maybe consider if the idea is pursued... maybe a sub-forum of the Husband/caregiver forum that is private/password or identity protected so that some emotional issues can be discussed (assuming that a contingent of the men on the forum might be our partners wishing to discuss some of their issues and emotions privately from us, which is OK by me, I would love for my sig other to have somewhere to vent about me and share and receive support for his anger/fears...)
This aspect might not be realistic, but I am just thinking out loud. |
Visit our new forum "Caregivers Corner"

Perhaps "Supporters of breast cancer survivors"

But of course Joe was way ahead of us on this... Joe, you rock.

Great idea, Hucklebuck! Joe, you really do rock!
