A Poem For My Sisters
We are blue
The clear, rich blue of a cloudless sky Foil for the deepgreen of summer leaves The scarlet of autumn maples, the gold of mountain ash The russet oaks The crystal twigs of icy December We are the sound of wind Sighing in the pines The first pre-dawn stirring of air Rippling the quiet water Moving into the restless Aspen. We are the sound of the gathering storm The roar of the tornado approaching. Awakening all to the value of life. We are the whisper of the gentle snowfall in the woods Bringing peace, forgiveness and a new vision. We are the shape of fog Changed by whatever we touch But remaining ourselves. Our song is the song of the earth Gentle, wild, calm, frightening, comforting. Our number is all numbers Today part of infinity Tomorrow nothing. We are the old hand-made bench With faded paint, A scarred memorial to the daily lives Of many who have lived before. We are everyplace Where people love, Dream dreams And reach to the future. The thing we fear Is losing the joy of living The thrill of Being part of the world. We are sisters before, through and after our journey joined together Forever. Written for my dear sisters, in love, June 22, 2008 Vickie |
Aww...
Does not happen too often but I am speechless My Little Dove (wink). This is absolutely beautiful and I am so happy to have read this today.
How was your birthday?? Did you hear me scream the 'Happy Birthday' song to you?? I ate cake not only on your birthday BUT on my birthday too! Now do you believe I spoil myself in different ways each day I am alive?? Happy Birthday again Dear friend. Sending lots of love and prayers today and every day.>>Believe51 |
Birthday cake for you too, Marie
Dearest Marie, I wrote this poem with you in mind, it is a birthday present for us all. You are such a sweet sister and I always love getting your posts. I did hear your shout out and I sent one back to you across the many miles, filled with much love and gratitude....You're the best! Love, Vickie

gotta love the coast to coast shout outs!
Beautiful poem, Vickie. Thanks |
Vickie, I, too, am speechless. What an awesome writer you are. That was one of the best poems I've ever read. I've written alot myself over the years, but now you have me wanting to throw all of my pens and pencils into the river. You should have that thing published somewhere.

Bill, Chrisy, Jean and all,
I was thinking of all of us on my birthday when I wrote that poem. Of Nicola and all the beautiful ones. Of friendships and hope and God. Thank you, Bill, for your post, though I would love to read some of your works...I know they would be profound. I would be honored to read them. Again, I am humbled by your words.....I love you all dearly, Vickie |
Uplifting and aspirational.
Mine would be more about the battered green bench that learns few lessons. We have limited means to learn the wisdom and lessons of our forefathers. RB |
