Herceptin Side Effects

I just realized that I posted this in newcomers, and probably should have posted here instead.
I am a new member. I am about to complete A/C chemo after having a lumpectomy and radiation. My doctors have suggested that I undergo a 1 year herceptin regimen. Is there anyone who would share with me their experiences on this drug, and what side effects they encountered? The side effects described in the drug information are very generalized and I'm looking for what actual women have dealt with, rather than some wrote text from the manufacturer. I look forward to learning more. Thank you. Anne

Hi Anne,

Welcome to the HER2 Support Board, you will find many kind and helpful people here.

Congratulations on completing A/C - Herceptin will be a walk in the park in comparison. I also had A/C followed by Taxol and Herceptin.

As far as side effects, I have posted the link (I hope it works) that answers your question and more. It is rather lengthy, but I think you will get a feel for what many of us have experienced. Good luck with this part of your treatment plan. Believe it or not, the year goes by quickly.

Please post your two cents on Herceptin "side effects" real or perceived! (http://her2support.org/vbulletin/ima.../multipage.gif 123 ... Last Page)

All my best,

Hi Anne,

I was on Herceptin for two years, and never had any side effects from it. Apparently the main side effect can be a decrease in heart function. So your onc would schedule you to have a muga scan every three months to make sure you are ok.

Best wishes to you!

D.W.

I was on herceptin for about 5 yrs. I never had any side effects either. I had a muga scan once a year to check heart function.
