Renee Zellweger to Make Movie on Making of Herceptin
http://www.asco.org/ASCO/News/Cancer...eutersid=10502
Had to post this here for everyone to see! Harry Connick Jr to play Denny Slamon!!! |
Becky
Two of the Dr's from RUSH where I go in Chicago are both good friends of Dr Slamon, & mentioned in the book....The Making of Herceptin...they were a big part of the original clinical trials....Dr Cobleigh and my oncologist, Dr Janet Wolter, Professor of Onc.Rush University Medical Center.... |
That will be one movie
I will be sure to see. This is really exciting, as it will hopefully raise awareness about the necessity to fund breast cancer research so we can get to the cure.
Thanks for posting this Becky - Gee, with Harry Connick Jr. - maybe he'll sing a ballad or two!! all the best caya |
Will watch for it
Interesting, Becky! I look forward to seeing it too. I really, really hope that Zellweger and the others have the freedom to make a very straightforward product.... to me, that would pretty much have to include recognizing and portraying in a deep and meaningful way that there are also those HER2's for whom the drug does not work, so that those individuals are not compromised by the movie.
A.A. P.S. I wonder who will get to play the dodo's who made things difficult along the way! |
Bravo
Becky,
Thanks for the post....and information. Any and all awarness is so vital to letting the public understand just what HER2 is and how important herceptin is as a break through drug for those that it does works for....I will speak with Denny and see if I can get some script information for us. Bravo to you my dear friend for posting this. I think it is a positive movie already, since most people that I have spoken with who have not had breast cancer touch their lives, do not even realize there are different subtypes of breast cancer and so many unknowns...pathways, etc. - let alone what works and does not work. We have a long road ahead of us in this battle of cancer...but with men like Denny - we can hope that drugs are being developed or in the process of being developed to help many of us. I doubt due to the chemistry of each one of us that one big miracle drug will work for all....rather we may need a few...who knows just yet...but awarnees is a major key in our battle. This movie just might help someone who is watching to understand the value of having regular breast exams, many women (hard to believe are afraid to go) this may assist them to understand the importance of early detection...and most of all not to give up, to be aware of the fact that there are many dr. fighting hard along with us in this battle to find a cure. Each day we get a little bit closer. Jean |
Becky, I was just going to post this very same article but you beat me to it. I'll be looking forward to seeing this. Jean's post covered most of my thoughts on this movie. Well said Jean. That would be great Jean if you could get some of the script from Dr. Slamon. Would be nice to get a sneak peek. They better do a great job with this movie or they will have to answer to the Her2 gang. :) Ha!
Chelee |
great post, Beck! I hadn't even heard of this! Jean- a sneak peek would be fun. Chelee-yes, they will have to answer to us! Sheila-it would be neat if your docs. were in the movie, too. Caya- (don't tell anyone, but I like that Sinatra-y sound that Connick has, I could work it into the script, He comes home from work at 2:00am lays his keys on the kitchen counter, loosens his tie, and walks to the back patio, and looks across the ocean, waves breaking on the beach, full moon, etc., then goes back in and sits at his piano and starts tinkling the keys, looking sorta melancholy, because at this point, he's still just working on herceptin and has no conclusively positive results. He starts singing low, "when I was a child, I had a dream of something just like you, smiles full of promise, and glittering eyes of gold, we danced across the sand, hand in hand, and promised we'd both grow old, together....." Then his wife, played by Eva Mendez, comes downstairs, and rubs his shoulders as he sits at the piano, "are you ok, honey?" Harry Connick/Dr. Slamon grabs her hand and kisses it and says, "baby, I just feel that we're so close, and these new studies are so promising") Alaska Angel- the number 1 dodo jackass who made things difficult along the way HAS to be played by the same actor who played the Warden in "The Shawshank Redemption" Just thinking too much again. Best wishes, Bill

Hahahaha Bill! Good one. Has anyone ever told you that you should be a writer? Well, you should. You've got a gift.http://her2support.org/vbulletin/images/icons/icon7.gif
Have a good Saturday everyone. Mary Jo |
Thanks Becky, I'll be watching out for this one!!
|
Oh Bill, your post made me chuckle, which I needed after this awful week on the boards with sad news everywhere. I love Harry's Sinatra-y voice too, love your lyrics. And I agree about that actor who played the "obtuse" warden in Shawshank...
all the best caya |
Thanks for the link Becky - I'm so excited about this movie! And Bill - you definitely should try your hand at script-writing (have you already tried it?) The movies today are soooo lame, Hollywood needs your help!
|
AllnI want to know is . . .
. . . what does Dr. Slamon think of the casting? Would Harry be his first choice for someone to play him in a movie? ;)
I look forward to seeing the film. Thanks for posting. Hopeful |
I wonder ...
... who does Renee Z. play? Mrs. Slamon??
|
My guess is that Renee Z will play Lilly Tartikoff (wife of the late Brandon Tartikoff) since she played such a huge role in the initial funding for Herceptin research. For those who haven't read the book this is how the Revlon Run/Walk came to be. It is really interesting stuff!
|
I read that Zellweger will be producing (only) and not appearing in the film.
|
I like Bill's idea, but I think that they should work Tiptoe, Stephanie, Christine, Joe and myself meeting Dr. Slamon at the confernce in San Diego!!!!
|
TY everyone. Madame, that's the best idea yet! (What are you doing up so late??!! You better get to bed. Remember- you gotta get up early in the morning and go rock-and-rollin')
