Cancerverary

I am approaching my first cancer-versary but am not sure when it should be - do you consider your cancer-versary when the doctor told you he is pretty sure you have cancer? or is it when they did the official biopsy & mastectomy?

Hi goopd,

Most people use the date of their actual operation - lumpy or mastectomy - as their cancerversary date.

Congrats to you on soon being one year out - it's a big milestone.

all the best

I consider my date as the day I was diagnosed. Because I had some chemo prior to my surgery.

Becky 04-24-2008 06:07 AM

The date of your surgery is officially the date as that is when the clock starts ticking even if you had chemo before surgery.

Thanks for asking. And answering. I have wondered that myself.

Happy #1, and may you celebrate many many more! This date seems more important than our birthday I think!!!!!

Yorkiegirl 04-24-2008 11:27 AM

I have used my surgery date as my anniversary.

Congrats on 1 year.

My Onc. said that he considers day of biopsy (official diagnosis) since he has some patients that never have surgery (were not stable enough to have it to begin with) or with cancers like leukemia etc...there is no surgery! Either way congratulations!!!

Goops, Congratulations on your first cancerversary and many, many more! Joan

I use both dates - date of dx - June 24, 2005 AND my surgery date - July 28, 2005. Why? Because I can!http://www.her2support.org/vbulletin...cons/icon7.gif And you know why else.........because each new year comes quicker when I use my diagnosis day AND I can celebrate twice. So..........

Happy cancerversary to you!

Love to you goops.......

Thanks for the good wishes and the info - if I go by biopsy/Mastectomy date (both were done at the same time) my anniversary would be June 5. I guess that is the best one to go by because it would make me 1 year NED too. :)

Ruth 04-25-2008 09:30 AM

June 5th is my 5 year date! It's a good one!

Hugs ~ Ruth
