carboplatin allergy
 

I had an allergic reaction on my 3rd treatment 3 weeks ago so today when I got my 4th dose they gave me a little bit of carbo very slowly and my lips got puffy. I had extra premeds decadron/ benadryl and another one. All through IV. I only got 20ml and the dose is 500ml. So I didn't get my dose, my Dr. was on vacation and they didn't want to risk it. I will see my Dr. next week at mid-counts and discuss next option. I received TCH 4 years ago with good response to liver mets. Now I have a large mass in lower stomach wedged between intestines. My CT showed good response so far which was last week. I would love to hear your advice or similar situations. Thanks Sally

Look for posts by Kareng on the board...she had the same problems and had to be hospitalized to get the carbo as she was having severe reactions...she did great with the last one...send her a private message...she is a sweetheart!

Sorry for the delay I just got home from the hospital. I am allergic also to Carboplatin. My doctor puts me in the hospital once a month and heavily premedicates me right beforthe carbo. It takes me four hours to get the carbo. I know I get a heavy dose of benadryl, hydrcortizone and the other two slip my mind I will let you know tomorrow what else I get. I hope every thing works out and know you are in my thoughts and prayers if you need me I am here.my side effect were my hands got very red and itchy, and my arms started with a rash and my face was beet red and I also had som wheezing. Take care and I will let you know the other two premeds I get.

My Dr. mentioned he might want to try Cisplatin. I looked it up and it sounds pretty harsh. I will see him in a week and find out what is next for me. I would really appreciate any feedback about this drug. Thanks Sally
