Dear lily, I was on ty&x may 07 till feb. 08 and had the same problems. In June I ended up in the hospital for dehydration and not able to wear anything on my feet but slippers. My onc had to cut the dosage to 2 for ty and 3x for a day. That was less than half the dosage. I stayed on that dosage till Feb when it stopped working. So it can still be effective with less pills. Hope you can work this out.

oh thank you mykentuckyhome ...in the beginning was 3 pill (500 mg) twice a day ..now the Doc only reduce 25% so is like 2.75 pill twice a day , but still a lot of diarrhea ....thank you so so much is going to change my weekend ...

Lily...

Believe it or not fiber helps with diarrhea. One teaspoon of plain metamucil mixed in water twice a day will help. Also being on the BRAT diet will help calm your system. (Bananas/Rice/Apple/Toast). Also since I don't eat any wheat (gluten) or dairy I drink protein shakes. They help keep the weight on. Whole Foods sells a Whey Isolate Protein powder by Biochem in a shiney blue container that tastes good (vanilla). Here's my recipe - every day:

1 cup (more or less) rasberry/cran or pom juice (or similar blend - organic)
(2) scoops protein powder (20 grams protein)
1/2 banana
1/4 cup frozen blueberries or raspberries or similar
1/2 soy yogart (Whole & Co) plain soy
2 tablespoons ground flaxseeds (FiProFlax by Health from the Sun - freeze dried in a zip pack)
Blend all of the above and drink!

I would try the metamucil - my secret is to mix it with a small amount of water and drink it quickly followed by a full glass of water. For me - it is easier to just drink it up and then wash it down with a big glass of water.
Feel Better!

Dear Lily - sorry it is so tough for you at the moment - it must be really wearing you out. Hang in there sis - surely that Doc can make some changes to make things easier for you! I would be crabby with them too! Its really hard when you are feeling sick eh?
I thought of you today when we were blowing out the candles on our bubbas cake! ~ sending good wishes on the wind. I will try and post some pictures in the next few days - my computer keeps playing up!
Really hope you are feeling better soon sis.
Blessings
Hermiracles.

Dear Lily,
I hate to hear that the Tykerb/Xeloda is giving you such a rough time. I hope and believe that it is doing even worse to the cancer. Remember, the rash is thought to be a positive indicator that the tykerb is working.

You do need to keep up your strength - the BRAT diet may help with the digestive symptoms and the Whey protein shakes will provide a good nutitional boost in a less difficult package - so hopefully your body can absorb more nutrients. The important thing is to get whatever you can into your body!

And I agree, when you are feeling crappy (oops, not a good word to use - sorry) everything is harder to deal with. From what you've said before, your doctor doesn't seem like one to keep secrets. Maybe he is not rushing to talk about what is next because he expects great results from the Tykerb/Xeloda.

Just want you to know you are in my thoughts daily.

Stay strong, sister!
Chris
