Vit. Absorption ..what we drink is important.
What we drink with our meals is important.
Caffeinated drinks, such as tea, coffee and fizzy drinks have a negative affect on absorption, drinking caffeine with a meal or soon after a meal can affect the absorption of calcium and zinc. Any drink with caffeine is best drunk at least one hour before or after. Alcohol is another drink to stay clear of at mealtimes. It destroys Vit. B6 by separating it from its protective binding and directly intervenes with B12 absorption into the intestines. Some good news: Wine is the exception (maybe we should make like the french)? Question for Jean, Lani, Becky and any others who may know...
Jean
So glad to see that you are "back". I've often wondered about the wine - but is it okay to drink a glass when on so many meds - tamoxifen, effexor, occasional imovane (sleeping pill)? all the best caya |
Hi Caya,
I would not take any wine with sleeping meds. I am certain it states that on the medication bottle. I do believe that taking tamoxafin is okay as I do have wine now and then and I am taking an AI. I must say that while on any antidepressant they say NOT to have any alcohol. I would check with my dr. regarding the drug effexor. A glass of wine with a meal once a week is my limit. The french as you know have wine with their meals every day. I have a close friend who is french and they are raised on it, as many other European countries. Hope this helps. Kind Regards, jean |
Hi Jean,
Yes the bottle labels do say no alcohol, but I am thinking a glass of wine once a week would be okay. I will check with my pharmacist and also my onc. when I see him in two weeks for my Herceptin infusion # 15 of 17 - but hey, who's counting? all the best caya |
Thanks for looking out for us Jean!!
