Taxol Question

Yesterday I had my second weekly taxol/herceptin treatment. Today I have a flushing on my face. Very red. I had the same thing last week. Is this anything to worry about?
Thanks in advance for your information.

Hi Patty :o

I had a flaming, red face after my first two treatments.
It felt like a sun burn. My chemo nurse started giving
me extra benedryl - she put it in the IV and we called
it my "sleepy juice".

You should mention this to your onc or to
your chemo nurse.

Patty,

My face is flused today. I took my second Taxol/Herceptin treatment yesterday. Now, I know I am not the only one that has this type of reaction. I did take two Benadryl last night to help me sleep, but my face was red when I got to school this morning. People have asked me today if I was o.k., and the principle said, "it was nice to see some color in my face."

Patty,
I had the same thing every time. I had TCH. They gave me tylenol which helped with the feverish feeling. I also got an acne type rash each treatment. It was a bummer having acne and hot flashes at the same time! I'm fair skinned and have sensitive skin. Good luck.

That flushing is probably the decadron.
Best wishes,

I often had a red face when I was on Taxol - it wasn't like a burn but it was red and would appear a bit swollen.

I have had the red face the day after all my Taxols....it lasts one day of red rosy and hot cheeks...the onc. told me it is from the Decadron....I thought it would only be at first, but this is my 10th month of Taxol and I still get it every time....just the price for getting the Decadron each time, that and being awake all night last night.

I didn't have Taxol but I did have Taxotere and my face got fire engine red. It was like Pink Girl explained. Decadron causes a flush...but this was different. My face felt sun burned and was hot to the touch. It was cooking! I looked like someone that wouldn't come in out of the sun. lol I looked so sun burned and my eyes were so swollen and puffy. Always mention these things to your oncologist and chemo nurse just in case. They might want to make sure you get extra Benadryl. (You just mentioned a flush so yours might just be from the decadron.) If so that is quite normal and nothing to worry about. Hang in there.

They just slowed mine down to a turtle pace and added a bit more Benadryl. It helped so much. ma

When I took Taxol I experienced the same flushed cheeks, and I was told that Decadron was the cause.
