Cost Of Tykerb?

I Will Be Starting Tykerb In A Little Over 2 Months And I Have Blue Cross Blue Shield And I Was Wondering What I Can Expect To Pay For Tykerb. I Am Receiving Social Security Disability And My Bills Already Exceed My Income. I Don't See How I Will Be Able To Afford Tykerb. I Would Be Interested To Know How Much Everyone Is Paying For Tykerb.

1.) Is BCBS your only insurance? or is it your Medicare supplement?
2.) Since you are on SSDisability, do you qualify yet for Medicare?
3.) If you are not yet on Medicare, you need to call BCBS and find out what your prescription coverage is. Is it capped at a certain amount each year (as BCBS does on some of their policies) or is it unlimited.
4.) If it is capped, then you need to spend up to that cap and then you can apply to qualify for free Tykerb through the Glaxo Smith Kline Commitment to Access program. Locate the Social Worker at you cancer clinic and they can help you with this.
5.) If you are on Medicare, and you have a Prescription Part D supplement, then Tykerb will put you in the donut hole pretty quick. Once that happens, you can then apply for GSK Commitment to Access to qualify for free Tykerb.
6.) If you are on Medicare and haven't applied to potentially qualify for Low Income Subsidy for Prescription help, then go on the Medicare website and do that. If you qualify for Low Income Subsidy, then Tykerb will only cost you $5.78 a month.
7.) My first recommendation is to find out if there is a Pharmaceutical Patient Advocate Nurse at your clinic. Most of them have one these days... otherwise a social worker at the clinic should be pretty well versed at this stuff. But if you have such a person at your disposal, they are awesome at helping you weave your way through all of this...
