Update - Good News
I posted a while back my wife was having major lower back sciatia. We went for and MRI and they thought some of the bone mets(known) were pushing on the nerve bundle. We were redirected to the Radiation Oncologist. At the same time we thought maybe it has started again. Had the CT and bone scans and all is stable(Yeah, Big relief) My wife is now undergoing local radiation to the lower spine. The pain has not gotten much better. I am starting to believe it is a disc problem. She has always had the mets to the bones from the beginning, but I hate to see her in so much pain. The pain meds are not working very well.
Thanks for all the prayers( you guys and gals are my outlet) Kathy Stage IV - 2003 Too many to list |
So happy all is stable.
Love & Peace, MaryJo |
Happy to hear that your wife's bone mets are stable. Back disc problems do cause a lot of pain - I speak from experience.

Glad the scans showed it is stable. Hope the radiation gives relief for your wife's back pain. It is hard on you to see her in that pain, plus everything else she has had to face. You sound like my husband, a great supporter and strength.

Thanks for letting us know the good news, John. I hope and pray they can help with the back pain. I know exactly how that can feel. Stay strong, Bill

John,
Only here could you say that a disc problem and lower back pain is GOOD NEWS! That said, I know from years of experience that back pain is no picnic - and I've never had any success from pain meds for it. For me (aside from chiropractic which I would definitely not recommend with a bone mets history), the only and best thing to work has been to walk. And walk and walk. Easy to say, hard to do I know as I've been dealing with this for the past couple of weeks myself. Hope Kathy's feeling better soon. |
Hi John- I am happy to hear Kathy's mets are stable. I do not have any experience with mets, but I did suffer from sciatica for years. Pregnancy and beyond. I do not know if this is something that might help- but it sure knocked my pain down to nothing. The SacroWedgy is a little form that you lay on (need a neck pillow or a rolled up towel too) and it helps your pelvic area relax- losing the tension that causes inflammation and pain. It only took a week or so of using it before my pain was gone.
Anyway, it sure helped me and thought it would be worth a mention. Because that kind of pain is severe! I just found it on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/SACRO-WEDGY-St...1665450&sr=8-2 Best to you both, Margerie |
Thanks for keeping us updated, I hope they can find a way to fix the pain. BB

John, so glad that things are stable. Is there a pain specialist in your area? There are pain patches available now, which I've read can work in conjunction with the oral pain meds to get control of the pain. Hope things settle down soon.

I also have lower back pain. It's no picnic. After dealing with cancer you'd think life would let us live pain free. Not!! We have all the aches and pains everyone else has -- only we wonder if it's a recurrence. Glad your wife is ok. Life is good.
