Carvedilol / Coreg - Headaches
Has anyone ever had nasty headaches from Carvedilol? These are dooozies. Started on it a month ago when LVEF dropped and was short of breath with increase of heart reat and BP. Have been on 12.5 mg twice a day and starting today am 25 mg twice a day. Had the headaches from the start within about 15-30 minutes of taking it and nothing (ibuprofen, acetaminephen, etc.) helps so far to get rid of them. Now with the double dose I am really getting clobbered. Any thoughts? Suggestions?
Am on Tykerb, Arimidex, Effexor, Synthroid, Celebrex, Carvedilol, Ambien, and Copaxone (MS injectible daily). Stopped the Tykerb about 10 days while seeing a cardiologist and ENT to be sure OK to keep taking Tykerb. Am in TEACH study. AbbyDawg |

First off Carvedilol is a beta blocker, and if you are on 25 mg morning and night, you are on the highest dose....this is a medicine that you CANNOT just quit taking, basically you must be weaned off it or you can have some really nasty side effects to the heart. It lowers the blood pressure and heart rate, but if you are getting severe headaches, you need to let the Dr know at once....this is not common. Also, do not take this with any herbal or supplements unless checking with the Dr first...it can also interfere with other meds, alcohol etc.....Don't put up with the headaches, get to the Dr....something needs to be changed. |
I'm on 12.5 twice a day too. No headaches though, and I've been on it for low LVEF for about 4 months.
How's your blood pressure? Irregardless, I'd report this to my cardiologist right way. Have you talked to him/his nurse about this? |
