Avastin side effects?
I will be started on Avastin next week. Can anyone who has been on Avastin tell me what side effects you had on this drug. Doc only told me that blood pressure could go up. But I would like to hear your experience if you would please.
Thank you, XXXXX Michelle |
I am on Avastin
Michelle-
I started with Tykerb/Avastin in Sept. and so far the only side effect for me is my blood pressure has elevated (I have always run very normal) My onc started me on some blood pressure meds and is watching. I feel fine taking it and nothing else that I can report from the Avastin. Good luck to you |
Just bumping this up

Hi Michelle,
I did have my BP go up - it's important to monitor this and catch it early as it is "easy" to control with medication. I've been on low dose lisinopril for elevated BP since July. The lisinopril can cause a dry cough, which has been driving me (and my husband!) nuts. I also have experienced a minor nosebleed problem - similar to when I was on Taxol. Sorry for the following indelicacy but it was really just bloody snot. Another potential side effect from Avastin is constipation. I have not experienced this at all - but maybe it's because I'm taking it with Tykerb (which causes diahrreah) so it all averages out LOL! Good luck on the Avastin - hope it helps bring things back under control. Much love Chris |
Just saying that I have had the same problems as Chrissy...elevated B/P requiring meds, a dry cough from the Lisinopril I guess and nosebleeds....but I heard today that with the FDA not approving it, my insurance will no longer cover it...I spoke with my oncologist, and she said being on it for 6 months was probably enough benefit, time to stop. I will remain on the Taxol for a short time and the Herceptin indefinately. Glad to know as I would hate to foot the bill of $20,000 at treatment with avastin....

Sheila,
I heard that the advisery panel had nixed the drug - it still has to be decided on in Feb. by FDA...am I wrong? So maybe your still okay with your insurance. Kind Regards, Jean |
Jean, I think you're correct - the 5-4 recommendation was from the advisory board and the final decision has not yet been made (although admittedly it does not look good). Sheila, if your insurance was paying for it off-label before, are you sure they won't continue to do so? Of course, if I were BCBS I'd sure use that as an excuse!
