Note from Kathy LaTour/Cure Magazine
This was posted under Maryjo's Just Mentioning thread, but I thought it deserved it's own thread. Great that Kathy has found us and is checking in!

I wanted to share with the breast cancer community what we’re doing in December at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium, one of the largest breast cancer meetings in the world where the latest in research is reported annually. This year, the CURE and Heal staffs will be there, reporting and blogging on the breaking news and advocacy issues. To get our daily reports and webcasts, sign up at www.curetoday.com/eupdates. If you sign up before Nov. 1 we’ll give you a free year’s subscription to Heal: Living Well After Cancer, the magazine for all cancer survivors. We’re excited about bringing you the news that may bring us one step closer to a cure. We hope you’ll join us. |
Thanks, I am new to message boards and threads... wasn't sure how to go about posting a message

Brenda -- I really want to do some interviews with the Her2 group in San Antonio. Can you e-mail me on my business email at kathyl@curetoday.com and we can set up times to meet, etc. I have some interviews already set up with the Alamo Breast Cancer Coalition, which is the group that has been bringing in an advocacy group every year.
This San Antonio meeting is so special to me. When my book The Breast Cancer Companion came out in 1993, I drove down to the meeting with three friends -- all survivors -- and we attended the meeting (very small then, around 400 docs). I had a table and promoted the book and on Saturday we went to the luncheon where all the doctors presented case studies before a panel. Boy did we get some looks. It was like we were the enemy and had invaded their camp. And at one point one of the panelists, who was promoting breast conservation surgery, made this huge statement that no woman wanted to lose her breast. Of course, he is right, but it occurred to me that he was speaking for me -- when I remembered telling the surgeon to take it off on the floor with a butter knife because I wanted to be here to raise my daughter. It was an "a-ha" moment for me that doctors didn't know what I thought or felt and I needed to tell them. It was really the moment I became an advocate. So let me know your schedule and who is the reader of the group. I have read about her and really want to meet her. Kathy |
