supplements and other do's and don'ts
I thought it might be interesting as well as give some of us newbies some info on what supplements all of you have started since being DX. As well as what foods you stay away from. No long list of technical jargen just a list and why. I know for me it all seems so overwhelming and I think I need to just go to the pahrmacy and get a bottle of everything. I personally have never been one for major research ( which I know can be a downfall in the situation we are in) but I find things much easier to wrap my brain around in simple list form. I'm very interested in all your input!

I also would benefit from a sort of concise list of the do's and don'ts. When I read the long and technical info, I end up more confused.

My Supplement List
This should be the link IN POST BELOW to my 6/30 post/new thread TO "SUPPLEMENT" OR WAIT, w/dosages and reasons for taking each. All from Dr. Mitchell Gaynor (recent thread on him by Brenda w/his website). He's my nut onc. Oncologist/hematologist nutritional expert/guru/true HEALER! Any more questions, shoot them by me. I do attribute my NED status (see signature below for details) to meditation, guided imagery, belief in MINDBODY connection and our power to dictate our chosen thoughts to our body (vs be haunted and taunted by fear-riddled thoughts, uncertainty, anger, etc.) + MY LONG LIST OF SUPPLEMENTS. NOTE -- I AM ER/PR-, 4th stage metastatic blah blah SURVIVOR! I wish the same (the survivor part) to all of you!!! With all my heart... Andi http://cdn-cf.aol.com/se/smi/0201e05fca/06 |

Hi Kriss,
I strongly recommend seeing a naturopath. Mine is helping me with all my issues: not wanting bc to rear it's ugly head ever again, fatigue, insomnia, bone health, minor joint issues, general nutrition. Your mileage may vary, and it is an evolving process, but my plan (I am strongly triple +) for now is: Insomnia melatonin 20 mg at bed time benadryl 50 mg at bed time GABA 500 mg at bed time General good health probiotics- Healthforce nutrional's VitaMineral Green (tastes about as good as it sounds, but full of good stuff) fish oil, flaxseed oil, Condroitin MSM, folic acid, grape seed extract, curcumin, green tea extract, selenium, multi-vitamin, 1 oz. dark chocoalte, fiber tabs, ground flaxseed, concentrated pomegranate juice. I go back and forth on the flaxseed (er+) according to what I read, decided it does more good than harm. Bones 1,500 mg calcium citrate get lots of sun (2 hours per day April thru October, also got the Fosamax plus vit D prescription Stay away from as much as possible white flour, white rice, pork, beef, non-organic dairy and produce, soy, regular alcohol, non-wild salmon/fish, artificial sweeteners, soda, partially hydrogenated oils, refined sugars especially high fructose corn syrup, artifical colors, preservatives Eat a lot of whole foods: produce, unroasted nuts (4 brazil nuts a day- yummy, but a wad of fat :( ) wild salmon and fish, chicken breasts, brown rice, whole wheat bread, olive oil only to cook. Limit sweets to once in awhile. Losing my sweet tooth this way! I am trying unsweetend rice milk to replace cow's milk and it is ok. It took me several months to wean off my old diet (which wasn't horrible) and add the new supplements. But I must say I have been feeling great- little menopausal effects and minimal fatigue and joint pain. My poor feet ache sometimes- take a little naprosyn. |
Please Supplement The Supplement List With What *you* Do!
Great list. Good to hear from others. MORE... More feedback, please ladies...
Just a quick note -- my nut onc (Gaynor) says to avoid LARGE fish -- as they have been in the water longer and have therefore ingested more mercury -- ie TUNA (which I love, but...) Andi |
