California COBRA Insurance
A California resident may receive COBRA benefits for up to 36 months. After the initial Federal COBRA expires after 18 months, a resident can apply for CAL-COBRA for an additional 18 months.

I am new at all of this. Can you explain COBRA briefly/easily? I don't want to make a big job for you....

If you leave your present employment for any reason, Federal Law requires your health insurance company to offer you the same or similar policy for 18 months.
Of course your employer does not contribute his share anymore so the premiums will be higher. This allows you to have no break in your health insurance so you cannot be denied coverage for preexisting conditions if or when you resume employment. These are only the highlights, for more info: http://www.dol.gov/dol/topic/health-plans/cobra.htm Regards Joe |
Joe that is good to know, thanks for passing that on.

Thank you Joe. I assume that applies to me being covered on my husband's policy. He will be retiring in a year. We will need to be looking into these things carefully.

Are there any other states having or planning to have the expanded coverage like CA? Thanks.
