Interesting Support Group - Bakersfield, CA

The HER2 Sisterhood is an informal support group in Bakersfield. Anyone interested in starting a similar group? We may be able to assist.

What a great bunch of ladies

Wow!
Another 10-year Herceptin success story in that article. Little by little we find out there are more women maintaining long term on Herceptin.
Even at about six years on Herceptin, I am still a straggler!

Great to get some different input.

P.S. The way the infusion area is at my cancer center we can be/are enclosed by curtains or walls, so it is not set up for "group" as described in the article, but to maintain patient privacy and keep spread of germs to a minimum.

I think that's a great idea. I wish they had done that at my place. Like Steph mentioned...the place I'm at really wasn't set-up for that. Some of us use to joke that they *didn't* want any of us talking. There are about 11 chemo chairs and they are all seperated about 5 feet or so away from each other. They are all *open* for everyone to see you unless you want the curtain pulled closed around you which no one did.

There we so many that really felt like they didn't want any of us talking to each other? If we signed in for our chemo...the *minute* any of us would start a conversation they would run out and grab you. Then if you started to talk to the person next to you they would also come up and find something to do to inturrupt any talk. It might of been coincidental...but I know many of the women commented about this. We all wanted to talk and share information...but it seemed impossible. So I like what this group did in Bakersfield. That would of been awesome. I might ask the social worker down here if we could see if there would be any interest in a group like that. I think it would be great. When I was told about the support group there...the first thing I asked is if they had any other her2/neu gals? I was told they didn't know? I found that hard to believe since the person I asked RAN the support group? Why she wouldn't tell me is strange. O'well...
