Message of love and peace?

I wanted to write all of you something that I just almost can't get my mind around. Several months ago my dad passed away very unexpectedly. We were very close and in fact my parents built their dream house right next door and moved in a little over a year ago. My dad was a retired Veterinarian and his favorite animal was birds. We always had lots of dogs and cats but he enjoyed birds the most and was very upset when our kitties would do bad things to birds. Well, about a month ago a white dove showed up at both of our houses. He would land on my roof and my parents. Sit around, turn his head to me when I spoke to him and basically lived here. My husband and I fed him regular dove food and I could actually get really close to him. So close that I saw that he had tags on his claws. My family just got back from vacation yesterday and my neighbor told me that black crows attacked him (I named him Mr. Darcy) while we were gone. They will do that if another bird is weakened. The UGA Vet school has him and he is going to be OK. His real name is Snowflake and he is lost from California. I live in GA. They can't believe that he made it all the way across the country from CA! I want to believe that my daddy sent him to us....I don't know. He is so beautiful and I was the only one who could get inches from him. He followed me around the yard. I have 3 kitties too (inside only) but I am definitely going to see if I can keep him if the owners in CA don't want him back or pay for the Vet bills. My Dad also worked for the Vet school and taught some pathology classes. What do you all think? Have I lost my mind?
Hugs ~ Ruth

You have NOT lost your mind. Messages of love are sent from our deceased loved ones all the time, we just have to be open to seeing them!

Beautiful story. I hope you can keep him! A different version of pennies from heaven.

RUTH -- how marvelous that you are OPEN

Brenda took the words right out of my mouth. Precisely. I echo her comments. That dove was a loving message to you, to be at peace, knowing your dad is feeling heavenly and will love you for eternity. It's a sign, a symbol. And you got it! Good for you.

Living OPEN to Life's Messages is wondrous. I have learned to do this since dx and learning about Spirituality. It's Truths speak to my heart and resonate with magnificent symphonic clarity.

Sending you and all my Soul Sisters loving energy... ANDI :)

Ruth, I love your story about the dove--before my diagnosis I might have been skeptical, but now my eyes are more open to such messages/signs all around us. I hope you get to keep the dove.

You have NOT lost your mind! Thank you fo much for sharing your wonderful story!!!

Ruth, That was such an inspiring story! You have not lost your mind. I truly believe the bird was sent by your dear father. You must keep the dove. I lost my mother to breast cancer in 1997 and since then have had many "pennies" from heaven. She has been my guiding force since my diagnosis in Oct. My mastectomy was on her birthday of all things and I truley believe she was right there with me keeping me calm.

from one birdbrain...

I have a bird story, too. When I had my first recurrence I had a very dark day and was crying and ranting and raging at God - it was summer of 2002. I was loosing my edge, my faith and was so depressed. I asked God for a sign of hope. Later that particular afternoon, I was working in my studio and a bright yellow bird flew into the room, and circled three times and flew away. It was amazing to me that the bird flew in to begin with, and then was able to fly back out without crashing - he was flying so very fast. I always considered that a sign from God. Keep reading...

Fast forward to March of this year. Recently diagnosed stage four, I was beside myself with grief and fear. Again, asking for a sign of hope. And once again, the yellow bird appeared - this time circling the outside of my house. REally, what are the odds? The only birds we get around here are crows, pigeons and local small brown birds. Even the Blue Jays and Robins don't show up much in this particular area. This bright yellow (finch?) bird does not live around Beverly Hills.

I have not seen the bird since but the other day there was a beautiful black feather on my doorstep - it looks just like an elegant feather quill for writing. I took it as a sign I should share my writing with others.

You are not crazy - that's my answer, but consider the source. LOL. I think that dove is a message from your Dad. I hope the people let you keep him, but even if they don't, the "message" was delivered so returning the bird to people who love and miss him would be okay, too.

Definitely not crazy! Our God is an awesome, loving and compassionate God who cares for each one of us. I am not surprised at all that He would show His love and comfort in these ways.

I love hearing stories such as these. It makes my faith stronger and never ceases to amaze me how wonderful our God is.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful stories you two.

For Ruth

I also believe this "sign" to be a message. I believe in signs.

My mom passed away in 1997, a year after my diagnosis of breast cancer.
We both enjoyed sitting in my yard and watching the little critters , expecially the cardinals and on rare occasion's, A HUMMINGER. She would get so excited when ever we did spot one. We dont see many down here.

Several years after her death, and each time it seemed to be after I had gone through some type of surgery, I was sitting in my computer room and for no reason I thought of the Hummingbird. Well, later that day, guess what appeared right outside of the window where I was sitting, A HUMMINGBIRD....

This happened several times after and I took it as a sign from my mother, that things were going to be ok. I don't have explanations for things that happen and I can be skeptical of some things, but I choose to think of this one as a message from my mother.

Keep believing, and I hope you get to keep the dove.

What a wonderful sign from God. You are not crazy. Just read the responses. We must all be crazy then. I had two white doves start showing up in my yard at the beginning of spring. We have seed out for all birds. They are so beautiful to watch and listen too. They sound different from the regular grey doves that are around this area. I think God must have put them on earth as another sign of his love and forgiveness. Thank you for sharing this heart touching story.

Ruth,

You are not crazy! I believe it was your father letting you know that he was there for you and looking after you.

I have moved so many times I've lost track. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I moved to GA to live with my daughter and her family. When I was going through my drawer one day I found a rosary - just a blue plastic one and on the cross was scrapped "E.McC 3-17-59" I had no idea where it came from as I had never seen it before. I knew the McC was from someone in my family as my name is McCarthy. I called my brother Joe since he is the geanologist in the family and told him about it. Turns out it belonged to my father's sister, Eleanor, who died of ovarian cancer. I have no idea how it came into my hands but feel it's a sign from God. I use the rosary every night to pray for all the women and men on this board who have cancer and also for all of their caregivers.

great thread

While I'm a junkie for the fabulous information on this site, I think that a thread like this is possibly better! thank you somuch for sharing your stories.

I have an amazing story or two.

When I was first dxed as stage I, of course i was devastated and living in panic. I had my lumpectomy and was waiting to start A/C. My family was here and being so supportive. My mom, dad, sister, brother-in-law and my kids went out to eat and we had to wait and wait for a table (because as we joke in Ft. Collins-no one cooks here). they offered us two tables next to each other and we decided to wait for a table together.

So we were seated at a big table and it had been cleaned up from the last party-all good. I took my seat and noticed that at my place setting there was an origami crane made out of someone's deposit slip. The next day my sister bought me a book on origami and we looked up the crane which symbolizes long life and prosperity. And that day I got my path report which said clean margins, no node, no vascular invovlment. Which was what we were so hoping for. I still have it and have never opened it up to see who's it was-mostly cause I know I could never refold it.

Of course, the game changed two years later when I was redxed and given months to live. Over 5 years ago!

My other story is from this summer. I have started a sketch book of things I want to manifest and positive images for this ridiculous fight we all have. I have always loved dragonflies and turtles as their 'medicine' is long life. Dragonflies have survived since prehistory and turtles live an amazingly long time. And they are just cool!

So in the long car ride to our houseboat trip in texas i sketched dragonflies on one page and turtles on a couple pages. Sooo we set up our houseboat in this cove and over the next couple days we saw dragonflies of every color, shape size EVERYWHERE. they would land on me and just hang out. AND there were turtles in the water constantly. On both sides of the boat at any given time I could see a couple of turtles surfacing and staring, going under and coming back up and by the end of our houseboat time they had moved very close to where we would swim. We named our cove "Tortuga Cove". On our last morning I just sat in the water and talked to the turtles and let the dragonflies hover every where and it is a visual that I hold dear every day.

Life is amazing!

I love this thread too..................

I love this thread too..........I am so encouraged by each and every story and KNOW these are messages from God to us. It makes me feel so "warm and fuzzy" when I hear them. I feel kind of left out actually....................wish I had a "story" to share. Oh well, the amazing love and peace I feel from my Heavenly Father will have to be my story for now....................Not a bad story I guess http://her2support.org/vbulletin/images/icons/icon7.gif but maybe some day my "angel" will come and visit me too. Hope so - hope so - hope so!!!

Love to all,

Mary Jo

I also believe that the dove, a sign and symbol of peace, was sent to you for a special reason.....our hearts are touched many times during our lives by special moments....we must be open to them to fully understand and enjoy.

What a lasting legacy your dad left you--his love of animals. Thank you for sharing your beautiful bird story. As others before mentioned, the dove is a symbol of peace and promise. Your dad is watching over you.

Believe51 07-30-2007 11:35 AM

Maybe not a bird story but.....

My grandfathers favorite song to sing to my mom & aunts was "You Are My Sunshine"...(My Only Sunshine..You Make Me Happy When Skies Are Blue...). Very very old song that is rarely heard. He would sing that song all the time and still does even though he has been passed away since 1968. Whenever we need my Grandpa he comes to let us know everything is alright. We hear the song in the wierdest situations and at the strangest times. My brother and my high school & college graduations, my wedding day, my mom's birthday (Halloween=only day of the year I can call her a witch and get away with it=LOL), whenever I am lonely or scared or sad or upset he comes. The week of my husband's diagnosis Grandpa came to visit, hearing that song let me know that he was comforting me, that he was somehow sending me the sign that he was here with us, he understood and that somehow everything would be okay. So far Grandpa has only come when I ask for a sign if the outcome is good. Maybe my husband will get some time out of this; 'cause Grandpa said and maybe he has connections...LOL

Now whenever I hear it I always say, "Hello My Dearest Grandpa, thank you for comforting me, for sending the signs I so desperately need!!" This year for my birthday I did not want a thing, I mean what more could I ask for since I had my husband still here with me?? All I said was "To make this day complete, I need my grandpa to visit". An hour later....he did!!

The day I took my husband home from the hospital after diagnosis I heard a different song that was a sign I asked for from God. This is a song I relate directly to my husband's illness. I will not get into that long story 'cause you know I can get-a-talking..whew, but that song is heard whenever I need a sign from God concerning my husband's illness. (imagine that, he had not been to the hospital since he was a wee kid!!)

These two songs have special meanings for me and are heard whenever I need a sign or some inspiration, sometimes I do not even know that I need the sign. What comfort I gather when I hear them, they represent to me that God is at work!! He has his messengers and boy are they busy!!!

Coincidence??? I THINK NOT!!

I too love this post and will save the other song for another time.

Waiting For A Miracle...and commanding one soon!!>>Believe51

Some messages are not as beautiful as songs and doves, but very appreciated nonetheless! I lost my brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew in a private plane crash in 2001. The NTSB and FAA could not definitively determine an official cause, but due to info that we put together ourselves and in talking to ground witnesses, our family and friends surmised that it was an issue of faulty fuel lines/vapor lock that caused fuel starvation to the engine. Right around the time that the NTSB report came out with no real cause, all three of our cars developed fuel line leaks within 3 days of each other. All well kept cars with no previous fuel problems, no explaination for this to happen. When the third one started leaking, my boyfriend pondered "what the F*%$ is going on?" Suddenly it hit me, my brother was doing this to send us a message that we were on the right track as to the cause of the crash... it was a fuel problem, just as we thought. It was his way of telling us we were right! I looked up to the clouds and told him that I got it, thanks, and if he could find a less expensive way of sending us messages it would really be appreciated!! LOL.
