need info on xeloda/herceptin combo
 

I have a good friend who has been 8 months on taxotere/herceptin for small liver mets that have now disappeared, but she is weary of teh harshness of taxotere and her onc. is telling her she can try xeloda/herceptin. Can anyone give me your experiences/results as far as side effects etc. with this combo ??

Why would she stay on chemo if the mets disappeared? I had 3 small liver mets which went away with 6 months of chemo/herceptin, and since then I've been on herceptin alone. No recurrence.

I've not taken xeloda, but I do believe that it is less harsh than taxotere.

I guess he feels that she needs something in addition to herceptin--I will def. tell her your scenario though, to present ot the doctor......thanks !!

I was on Xeloda and Herceptin for about a year....just went off the Xeloda 2 months agpo, now on Herceptin Taxol Avastin. The Xeloda worked very well for me at first, but slowly quit working. I took 2500 mg a day, 1500 in the a.m. and 1000 at night for 14 days on and then 7 off. The side effects were minimal, burning feet, watery eyes and runny nose....and its oral, which helps not having to get an infusion for the Xeloda. Let me know if there is aything else I can answer. Side effects doo seem to go according to dose, but they have found that the dose I was on is just as effective as a larger dose with less side effects.

Alice, I was on a small dose of Xeloda, 500mg 2x's daily, in combo with Herceptin for my stubborn lymph node mets. I had a partial response, then was stable for many months before progression began and we dropped Xeloda. Altogether I was on Xeloda over a year with virtually no side effects that I could tell.

I was on herceptin w/xeloda w/good response in 2oo3 for about 3 months or so. Then was herceptin only for 6 more months. Then NED until 2007. Was just on Ty,xeloda. Side effects are minimal compared to taxatere.
