Social Security Disability & Working Part Time
Just Wondering If They're Are Very Many Of You That Are Working Part-time And Receiving Social Security Disability? I'm Still Waiting To See If I Qualify, They Told Me It Is Usually A 4 Month Process. I Have Read You Cannot Gross More Than 900.00 In A Month. Do You Have To Let Them Know You Are Working If You Keep It Under 900.00? I Guess They Probably Ask That Question.

I was approved for SS disability last Sept. I can only make $830 a month in working wages. I don't know how they check, but I assume that they do, so I make sure that I don't make more than that because I don't want to risk losing my disability. I really don't feel energetic enough to work more than part-time anyway.
It took me about 6 months to be approved. I had to call and call and call after about 4 months to get them to take me seriously and take action on my application. The squeeky wheel gets the grease! Good luck! |
Sheila,
It is true that you can earn no more than $900/month while on disability social security. The way they keep track is by your income tax returns. Also, if you applied for disability social security please be careful about how much you are earning until your decision is reached. My cousin was denied on her first application and then she got a lawyer and appealed the decision. She finally got disability social security but now they are after her for over payments. Seems that while she was fighting the initial decision she was working full time. She did not apply due to breast cancer but for some other condition. Also, if you do have income your social security benefits may be taxed. It depends upon how much you earn and there is a form you use to compute how much of your disability social security is taxable. |
I was given disability in 2003 for other than bc. Yes, be very careful obout how much you make because they will check. After two years you are qualified for medicare even if you are not 65. They MAY also check every 6 months to see if they agree that you are still disabled.
