New microcalcifications!!
 

First Ladies, let me apologize that the following post is a copy of one I put on the Komen site earlier. I know many of us visit both sites, but I wanted to get all the info I could :-) So, here goes....

Geez! Had my 3-month post mammo last week and they found clusters of microcalcifications in the other breast! Any one with info on this kind of thing? I have googled it to death, so I know it can be a benign condition, but given what the mammo tech said and showed me on the films (shhhh - I promised not to tell), it looks like there are many tiny ones and that they are tightly clustered together, and that would indicate a possible problem. With a bc history, I am guessing I am on my way to another biopsy now. I am sooooooo tired of this!!! Anyone out there experience this?

I experienced this. I am glad that I did. My radiologist found a very, very small cluster of calcifications (9/06) and it did turn out to be DCIS with a very small invasion portions (6mm/5mm) That is VERY SMALL. I mean I would have preferred it to be a benign cal, but it wasn't. I feel very fortuanate that it was detected so small and early. If you look at my history, I have had a past, but I consider myself lucky because each time it was caught so early. Please note that I am BRCA2 positive, but didn't know that until last yr July.

There is an excellent chance that yours is benign or even just DCIS.

If there were no calcifications, I would imagine a tumor the size that I had would have gone undetected at that point when it was found.

I have not at all at the subject of micro calcifications but was struck by some of the posts on this site looking at calcium intake, the need for magnesium, the impact of excess calcium and the inability of the body to deal with it....

Green veg etc are surprisingly high in calcium.

If you click on search above and enter calcium etc you should find some posts.

If osteoporosis is an issue in terms of diet omega three DHA reduces osteoporosis as will balancing the omega sixes. You will find posts on this too.

Good Morning Erin,

I'm sorry this has happened to you and I know exactly how you feel. I, too, went through this 8 months after my initial diagnosis. I did have to go through a sterotactic biopsy and THANKFULLY the results were all benign. At that point however, I opted for a prophylactic mastectomy of my left breast as I didn't want to go through this stress every 6 months. I do not regret my decision. Thankfully, after the pathology report came back of that breast no cancer was found.

So hang in there and no that it probably is nothing but definitely needs to be followed through.

It sounds like your team is on the ball....I had to have a biopsey 6 months
after my dx. It is more than likely going to be okay...(my biopsey was benign)once you have been dx with bc the dr. are really checking and that is exaclty what you want them to do. Take a deep breath and try to think positive thoughts. Either way you are on top of things and that is what is most important.

I had this in the other breast and had a 0.3cm DCIS. It was removed with a 2cm clean margin. This was done when I had the 2nd surgery on my "bad" breast to clean the margins. My surgeon just wanted to "see". Since I was then having chemo, I was going to have both breasts removed but haven't and may never do that. Do get it checked out though. Clustered microcalcifications can be suspious.

Since then I follow a meditterean diet and balance my omega 3/6. Also walk and run up to 35 miles per week. I was not a good girl in any of these areas before bc. Therefore, I am hoping to keep my breasts long term.
