Egg Allergy -- Anyone?
Hi Everyone,
I am suffering from a body rash for the last two months -- since chemo. I just got the results from a blood test that indicates I am "highly reactive" to Egg Yolk, Egg Whites, Amaranth Flour and Almonds. I have had allergy tests (blood and prick) a year prior to my breast cancer diagnosis but no reactions were noted at the time. Has anyone else developed food allergies after diagnosis or after chemo? |
My allergies started after a bout of dysentery (gi infection) and a subsequent car crash I was in. I'd been sensitive to some foods and inhalants, but not as bad. My allergy doc said that sometimes a trauma or severe stress can tip the scales.
You may be sensitive to more things. The tests are not 100% accurate. And when you ingest a combination of several foods/ inhalants, you can be sensitive, when the stuff on its own doesn't give you trouble. It takes a while to find out what works for you. Eg. I can drink coffee in winter, when it's freezing, but I get symptoms in Spring when pollen counts are high. You are lucky to have allergies to things that are relatively easy to avoid. I am sensitive to milk, corn, soy, potato, eggs and lots of other stuff. I cook everything from scratch. On the other hand, I eat a very healthy diet, am slim and feel great. It's much easier for me to stick to the diet, because when I eat things I shouldn't be eating, I feel like a wreck within a few hours. Jacqueline |
Although I have had a number of environmental and food allergies during my life, oddly enough, before chemo I was not allergic to poison ivy--which most people are. After chemo, I am allergic to it and now have to be very careful when gardening.

I got myself tested for mouse protein allergy before starting Herceptin, since mouse protein is used in manufacture of the drug. Also Taxol is made from the ewe tree and they add something to taxol that is derived from castor beans. You could be allergic to anything. I got a rash on my hands when I took A/C. Funny, I wasn't worried about allergy to A/C. I was worried about Taxol and Herceptin. ut I had no trouble with T and H, which is what I was nervous about (though had to stop Herceptin at 9 months due to heart issues). Had the rash with A/C. Go figure.

Allergies relate to the inflammatory and immune systems.
Omega threes and particularly DHA and EPA help damp these systems down. Excess omega six fuels the inflammatory process as the chemical triggers are made from omega six derivatives. There are lots of posts on this site looking at some of the research on the benefits of balancing the omega threes and sixes along with a sound diet, and much can be found on the web. RB |
New Allergies
Hi:
After Taxol I developed an allergy to the metal in my watch and had to get a watch with a stainless steel band. I was told by my oncologist that Taxol can cause patients to develop new allergies. Barb |
