Irene,

i am in the process of reading it also. SAw it on Oprah and ordered it. Mixed emotions. My husband absolutey hates it! I think he gets caught up in the whole "Universe" thing. He is very christian. When I read it, the Universe is God to me. If you look at it the right way, i think it's a awesome book. Did not like the story of the women that cured her breast cancer without treatment though. I think that's dangerous. I like the way the book talks about forming your own universe. Our thoughts and the people we put in our lives form it. If you give off negative thoughts, you will get them back. The other thing i didn't like about it was the way they talk about getting what you want because you want it so bad you make it happen. God gives us things, not ourselves. But, i do like the book. I like the part about positive energy helping disease. Our own immune system can put our bodies back in "sync". The human body/spirit wants to live. We need to let the energy flow through us.And in the end, we need to thank God for the good and the bad.

IRENE FROM TAMPA 04-05-2007 04:36 AM

Thank You Ladies

I have not read it yet either, but will get it as I am curious since I have heard so many views about it. My daughter says they also have a DVD version to watch.

I guess maybe it can be interpreted differently by everyone. I also do not agree with the if you wish hard enough you will get what you want. Dont seem to like that message very much and it seems to be setting up people for many dissappointments if it does not work. I know myself have driven around the parking lot of a mall wishing and wishing to find a parking space only to NOT. LOL. I think that part is mentioned in the book. If you wish hard enough...........

Michele I agree very much with you about our immune systems and how they play such an important part of our "healing". And thinking positive thoughts can certainly help us with that area. These are things I think we all know but is sometimes difficult to achieve.

Will need to check it out.

Thanks again

Take care

I plan to read it, then take what is useful and leave the rest. My accupuncturist mentioned it to me. She seemed to hint that if I had fears about recurrence I could "attract" cancer to me. I reject that absolutely. Fears are normal and I have cancer due to genes and possibly seven years of hormone replacement therapy. In fact, I am wondering now about my accupuncturist!

I believe in positive thinking and, since there is so much misery in the world, it's our obligation to be as happy as possible as much as possible. But I've tried visualizing stacks of money before and so far I'm not rich. LOL.

I have the DVD The Secret. It's all about creating the life you want. It's all about attitude, positive affirmations, greatfulness and surounding yourself with positive people.I watch the DVD every few weeks and it is powerful .Ohrah had it on her show a few weeks ago.

I have the DVD that a friend gave me. Thought she gave me a book, but it was "Anatomy of the Spirit". She is much more 'new age' than I am. I agree that a positive outlook can only help. I hope The Secret's message is not that if bad things happen to you, it's somehow your fault for not thinking positively enough. We have enough to deal with without blaming ourselves.

A joke
A man arrives for a meeting only to find there are no parking places and he is very worried he will be late.

He prays to God that if he can just find a parking spot right now, he will go to church every Sunday and not touch another drink.

Just then, a car pulls out of a parking spot just in front of him.
And he says----
Never mind, God, I found one!

Cute joke! I haven't read the secret, but it is on my list of books to read.

Another book out or DVD

I was talking to a friend today about "The Secret" and she mentioned to me that I must buy one called 'WHAT THE BLEEP &*%% DO WE KNOW.

She said this was a fabulous book (she actually watched the DVD) and some of the same people interviewed in The Secret spoke in this one, but she mentioned that she liked this one much much better and that I should watch/read this one first.

Just wanted to pass this info along for those of you who like to read and might be interested in this point of view.

Take care and everyone have a very Happy Easter

Dear Irene,

I bought it at Costco-not expensive there. Costco ran out the following week.

I heard it at Oprah's. in process of reading now

It's good for motivating and positive thinking. I don't know if it deals with health issues-material things are a bit easier to do the law of attraction, which is what it discusses I believe.

I was also taken back by saying that because I think about my illness, it will come back. To me it's just the fear, certainly not the desire to bring it back.

I like Andrew Weil's books on imaging and breathing. I also like a book from Simonton called Getting Well Again. Also there's a book called You Can Be Happy by Richard Carlson that you may enjoy.

XOXO

Maria

Well I have seen the DVD and just bought the book, AND saw the movie "what the bleep do we know" 3 times. OK, so I do live in Santa Cruz which is a pretty "new agey" place, but I do not consider myself overly so.

I find these subjects very interesting and provocative. Personally, I think there is considerable "evidence" of mind/body/greater power influence on, well, LOTS of things. Start with just the placebo effect. I think science is beginning to find lots of interesting connections, and beginning to embrace these concepts more and more. And even as for the "new age" thing, The Secret actually is about stuff that has been around for years, as in the book "think and grow rich".

That said, although I believe your mind can influence your body's chemistry and immune system, I reject the new agey guilt that implies everyone could cure their cancer and if they can't, its their own fault!

So, go ahead and see the dvd (you can view it online for 4.95) or buy the book, I think it was around $15 at Costco. And definitely see what the bleep.

Then use what you think is valuable, reject what you don't think is helpful.

BTW, my hubby probably would hate The Secret, but he DID like What the bleep because it had a lot of "real" science in it!

The Secret - What the Bleep- and another Book

Hi Amazing Group,

I have both "What the Bleep" and "The Secret" DVDs and they are both wonderfully inspiring. I watched "The Secret" on one of the lowest days I've had after all of this cancer stuff started and it propelled me right out of my depression. I think repeated watchings are good reinforcement.

I did not take away the guilt part of attracting bad things - but I do believe with all my heart that your attitude, meaning basically what you think about, affects every cell in your body. When you are positive and happy you are bathing your system in endorphins and good chemicals - when you are sad and stressed you bathe your systems with cortisol and other destructive chemicals. So ultimately you become stronger and healthier and can handle what life gives you better if your mind body connection is working on the positive side.

Another great book is "The Biology of Belief" - it has some thought provoking ideas in it.

Have a great day!

Donna

Donna, I agree

I also believe what you said in your post:
"I did not take away the guilt part of attracting bad things - but I do believe with all my heart that your attitude, meaning basically what you think about, affects every cell in your body. When you are positive and happy you are bathing your system in endorphins and good chemicals - when you are sad and stressed you bathe your systems with cortisol and other destructive chemicals. So ultimately you become stronger and healthier and can handle what life gives you better if your mind body connection is working on the positive side."

I have also seen, however, some people go the other way with it and lay guilt trips on people because they could not "cure" their cancer. Like I said, there are a lot of "new age" wackos around and that can be counterproductive.

Who is the author of the book "biology of Belief" and is it available in bookstores on online somewhere?

Thanks
Chris

And the thing about the parking place...

There's a segment in the DVD "The secret" where a guy is saying how he uses it to get parking places. It was pretty funny. But then I actually did it and have done it now several times in the hospital parking lot...In fact, now I'm surprised when "MY" parking place is not there waiting for me!

chrislmelb 04-06-2007 05:08 PM

when looking for a parking space you say:

"Holy Mary full of grace,
please find me a parking space"

Hope no one is offended.

Donna 04-06-2007 05:34 PM

HI Chrisy,

The author of "Biology of Belief" is Bruce Lipton, PhD. I absolutely loved it up until the end where he seemed to make a leap into a territory only briefly covered in the front of the book - so I kind of ignored that part - too far a leap into new age for me - and I come from a long line of "new age" thought folks. But the rest of the book was incredibly good and full of amazing stuff that I found very helpful. I bought it on Amazon.com.

What a beautiful day this has been in Northern California!
