Herceptin-eventually stops working??

Greetings to All, In much of the literature I have read on herceptin it says it eventually stops working. Does anyone know how long it is effective??? Is there a predictable track record--is it long lasting for some of us? So glad tykerb is in the picture now, too. Any comments are appreciated. Happy Spring to All. Ceesun

My onc told me last month that he knows of a woman (not his patient) who has been on Herceptin for over 5 years and is still clear. He has also heard of women who have stayed on Herceptin since trials in 1997/98.

I wonder if the Herceptin just flat out stop working? Or does the Her2neu develop a resistance, like germs do to antibiotics?

Cee, Look up Gina Popp's and others posts. Under certain scenarios people can become resistant to H. I don't think any of this is proven w/o a doubt, You are at a point where you can look more deeply into studies and try to draw some conclusion. But we are probably are not there yet in concluding who wil be resistant. BB
