where to go what to do

hi ya'll
roben has been diog. with liver mets. 3 years in after bone mets. and brain mets. much chemo has already happened. she's been on hersptin since 2003. this latest diog. is devastating her. doc's wanted to give her abbrexaine and avestin. the avestin was denied by the insurerace comp. because it is not apporved for breast cancer. she is doing the abbrexaine . her blood counts has been a problem.they never recovered after brain mets. and gemcitibine and carboplatin the bottem dropped out. platlets fell aslow as 6000 but are at 60000 today .blood counts are proventing her from getting into clinical trails.I'm looking for help and advice from ya'll can you help?
thanks jeff

Jeff, here's a link to a site listing many drugs used for BC, maybe will give you some hope that not all options are exhausted. Also, is Roben on supportive care for the low blood counts, ie Neupogen for the white cells and Aranesp for the red? <3 Lolly

Hi, me again. I had to attend to some home business so my first post was somewhat abrupt...
I KNOW how frightening this all can be, so I just want you to know you and Roben are not alone here.
The trials can be pretty restrictive because of low blood counts, so that would seem to me to be the first order, to get blood counts up and stabilized; growth factors can be your friends here.
A tactic that my onc uses (maybe not news to you but offer it anyway) is to reduce the chemo dose when my counts are borderline so that I stay on schedule and keep hitting the cancer cells even if not quite as hard.
I'm sure some of the others will have suggestions, so hang in there. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Bumping this up, does anyone have experience with Abraxane?

Yorkiegirl 03-20-2007 04:47 PM

I had 4 treatments of Abraxane. I did really well on it. I did however have to have the Aranesp shots for my RBC , but my WBC did really well.

I had the achng joints but no nausea.

thank you yorkie girl
I expect Roben to do well with side effect to she was on toxil (a sisterb to this drug for year and three months). I just feel she needs the avastin also and feel she should be able to fight this without insureances holding back drugs just because there to expensive.
thanks for your thoughtfulness
God bless you
