3 year survival
Tomorrow, March 9th will be 3 years since my diagnosis.
I recently had a dig. mammo, blood work and markers.. all were fine. 3/24/04 I had a partial masectomy... 4/14/04 an axillary node dissection ( 14 removed) Primary tumor was 2.2cm IDC.. 3/4 nodes positive ( requiring surgery number 2 ) vasc. invason 3 DCIS areas close to primary 1 of 14 nodes positive at dissection DD A/C, Taxol, 37 rads, 1 year Herceptin Finished 5/06. Er/Pr neg Her2 pos. grade 2 I feel very postive and am grateful that the results of the herceptin trials were reported approx. 6-9 months after standard chemo ended. Actually , at the time there was some discussion time about benefit of herceptin for me being almost 9 months out of treatment. My onc. called her colleage at Dana Farber at the time to get his take on benefit, but he was pretty non-commital- stating only that at the time ( May '05 ) they were using 6 months as a standard cut-off. My onc. and I both agreed-- let's do it and I' m so glad that I did. Now almost 2 years later ( post clincal trial reports), there is so much more emperical data that the treatment is almost standard now. Fortunately my echo cardiagrams remained normal throughout. And so, here I am 3 yeras after diagnosis with an attitude that I'll be around for a good long time and tomorrow around 5 PM, I will raise my glass of wine to celebrate life with all it's trials and all it's gifts. Please join me if you wish. Love and my best to all of you. Carol |
