4 1/2 months past herceptin

I just wanted to start a post to see how those of us who are some months past herceptin are doing. I am 4 1/2 months out - finished on October 11, 2006 and feeling good. I did start with a left side/rib ache in October of 2005 while on chemo and that did seem to be aggravated more so while on herceptin. I still have that issue but am thinking it's just a "side effect" from all my body has been through. I did have a pet/ct scan the end of December 2006 and all is fine so we know that it isn't cancer. Also, it is a sporadic ache. Some days worse than others - somedays not at all and then somedays very annoying. Never while I sleep or wake in the night and never when I get up.

The good news...........I'm down 15 pounds since herceptin is over and FINALLY feel I have my body back. That is a great feeling. My hair is awesome and I feel really good. My nails are still ridgy and tear easily BUT I do have my hands in water every day at work so I suppose I could blame some of that on that.

Overall, I feel good. It's good to have that bloated/fat feeling behind me (well, not really BEHIND me - hahaha) but gone.

Let us know how you are doing as well.

I am so happy for you....I would love the benefit of losing the 20 pounds I have accumulated with Herceptin....but I don't know if I'll ever be off it.....You are an inspiration...maybe someday I'll get to shed the weight!

Past herceptin

I too finished Herceptin last October. I feel really well and have also gained a few pounds that I would like to lose. Had my six month mammo and an ultrasound two weeks ago. Had to have a ultra sound biopsy done and will get the results on tuesday when I see my surgeon. He does not seem too concerned, just being cautious I guess. Anyway, good luck to all us ladies and hopefully we will be cancer free,Jeanette

Alway great to hear that someone is in the clear and hope you remain that way.

I was on herceptain 11/05 to 11/1/06 and was misserable - exstatic to report - most of the stymptoms - aches, pains, ADD . stiffness, runny nose etc.. have pretty much abated. It is the weight gain that has not - could be attributed to the lupron shots I have beentaking since 11/05 along with the arimidex - up 12 pounds and depperately trying to loose - every doc says it is a side effect of forced menapaus .. I'll deal ith it if thats all. :)

Had digital mamo in december all clear- MRI scheduled for June - keeping my fingers crossed.
Diagnosis 9/14/ 05 at age 43
lumpectomy 10/5/05
Tamoxifen
Herceptain 11/05 for 1 year
Lupron 12/05
switched to arimidex same day as starting lupron.
Stage 1

Herceptin

I was on Herceptin from 2/04 to 2/07. I just quit Navelbine a month ago (with the Herceptin) and am now awaiting what may be next. I tried a Tykerb-like drug but had severe symptoms. I am feeling mixed emotions being off the Herceptin, but also happy that the symptoms it caused are fading slowly. Let us know how the Xeloda?tykerb does for you....I think that may be next for me, but I have to wait for FDA approval as I had no A/C. Love and good thoughts, Vickie

Hi all,

Finished end of Nov 06. Leaky nose is almost gone. Nails are still tore up and down to the quick. Diarrhea is subsiding. Eyes seem to be getting worse. Feel good otherwise.

Gained 5# since finishing but I suspect it's the holidays and girl scout cookies.

Hpe you find something that works for you Betty.

I will keep you posted on my treatment. I am so happy that they are both in a "PILL" form. No trips to office for I.V. drips...Has your cancer returned or are they looking at prevenative treatment?

Hugs, Betty

Hi Bev, thanks for your thoughts. Everyone seems to have gained weight while on herceptine??? I was on it for a year and did not gain any weight. However, I did gain 35-40 pounds while I was on A/C, but I lost it within 3 months.

Marejo,

Congratulations on finishing Herceptin! I'm glad that you're feeling so much better. I have 3 months to go and can't wait!

Congratulations on finishing your treatment. I know the weight loss feels good. I am still on herceptin, but I have lost 15 lbs. after finishing treatment with Taxotere. I am beginning to feel somewhat human again. Best wishes and I hope that you never need treatment again! Here is to being cancer free.
