How is ER positivity measured ??

Hello All,

Does anyone know how ER positivity is measured? If a person is 15% positive does it mean:

A. That 15% of EVERY individual cell viewed on a slide is receptive?
B. That only 15% of total cells in a slide are positive?

Thanks!

Maria (MTS)

Maria,

I think the answer is B. I have seen some report descriptions that go into whether the percentage of cells that stained positive did so "weakly" or "strongly." There is still a lot of art and subjectivity to reading these slides.

Hopeful
