nipple reconstruction options??

HI, I had bi-lat. mast.,skin sparing and nipple spared on one side, w/immed. expanders. I am starting radiation. Future plan is to go with silocone implants. PS is vague about nipple options. Says he will roll up some skin and suture. I have read about skin grafts from donor sites and tatoos. I thought about having the other nipple removed so they will match and just doing the tatoo so I will not have to wear a bra to hide protruding nipples? Please share your experiences. Thanks, Lisa.

Hi Lisa, I had a double mastectomy with saline implants and am considering nipple reconstruction/tattoos, too. I spoke with a friend who had nipple reconstruction on her remaining breast and she wishes she did not have a nipple added, but just got a tattoo instead since now she always has one protuding nipple peeking out of her clothes. I have seen some before and after pictures and sometimes it turns out looking great--I guess it depends alot on the plastic surgeon?? Right now I'm leaning toward just getting a nipple tattooed on each side so they match and I can look half-way normal again. I also wish I had chosen silicone now instead of saline, since now I feel like I just have two little pink rocks where my breasts used to be. Good luck with whatever you decide--

Lisa,

Funny,

I had similar questions at beginning of week. Search under reconstruction and you will find some information.

Also look at my thread start earlier this week and Kelly's option.

I have saline implant in one, expander in another and leaning toward just tattos.

Also Sheila has some thread on this also.

XOXO

I have silicon and I have a rock on my chest also, I think I have developed scar tissue around the implant as it does not move, just sits there like Mt Everest....so silicone may not have made a difference...I think they call it adhesive capsulitis when this happens,,,in order to fix it, they must go back in and remove scar tissue and replace the implant....i am just not ready for more surgery :(
