Sore beast with some pain
I was diagnosed in June, Stage 1, ER+PR- Her2positive and had four AC
and then radiation since I had a lumpectomy with clean margins. The radiation went fine and then I started Herceptin for one year and am on Arimedix. Now the breast is sore and some pain at times. Is this from the radiation or very unusual. Dr. said give it some time. Thanks for all your expertise and I mean expertise. This is a wonderful group of knowledge. Knowledge is power Patb |
I still get pain from time to time and I am further out from you. My surgeon assures me it is normal and I may have discomfort from time to time my whole life.
Hugs to you. |
Pat B,
I was also diagnosed in June as stage 1; had lumpectomy June 3 and then reexcision for one positive margin June 23. I started Rx August 14 and completed September 29th. I started Herceptin every three weeks on Aug. 24th and an AI on October 1. I have had periodic discomfort (wouldn't call it sharp pain) ever since surgery (after the re-excision I had a whopping seroma/hematoma). I am still sensitive on that breast to any pressure. When I had my follow-up visit with the radiation oncologist in November, just the amount of pressure applied to do a clinical breast exam almost put me over the edge. At the time, my surgeon told me it would take 6 months post radiation for the breast to "settle down." My radiation oncologist also told me that the area where I received the boost would be extra sensitive, as the area was tightly focused due to the fact I had so many clips left by the surgeon. I am coming up on my first mammograpy since surgery this April, and am wondering how I am going to deal with the pain of compression. My idea is to make an off-time appointment, and take one of the left-over tylenol with codene from the surgery an hour in advance. So, long answer to your short question - yep, it still hurts! Best of luck to you. Hopeful |
me too!
Pat I'm glad you asked this as I finished radiation in April '06,almost a year agoand still have itching/pain and hardness around the lumpectomy site.
My mammo last July was normal and at the time I was told this was probably scarring and also from rads but it seems to be worse rather than better. I'm seeing my Dr this Thursday and will ask again as I'm tired of imagining this is a reoccurance. Tricia |
Thanks all for the reply
I also have a mammogram in April and can't imagine that. I guess a lot of pain meds before. I just finished the boost Dec 28th so I guess the soreness is normal for now. Thanks patb |
