orthopeadic oncologist

I had a spot discovered on my sternum during a breast mri. the pet ct and bone scan does not show cancer.

Is this how bone metastasis starts?

I have to go see this orthpeadic oncolgist at UCLS in California. I'm very scared. What additional tests is he going to run and what other information will he provide?

Anyone of you familiatr with this orthopeadic stuff? Or does your regular onc treats the spots and make decisions.

Help

Thank you

Funny you should mention that. My Dr. just recommended that I go see a orthopeadic Dr. I have mets in my hip and he said they can do like a micro or ultra sound type of wave to help stop it. The only thing is after I left his office, I'm not sure whether he was going to make the appointment or am I suppose to. Patty H

Sternum spot

Hi -
If the spot is in a certain place then it is likely due to the rubbing that occurs when we bend our head down and cause the bones to change position. The place I mean is just in the middle between your breasts, or top of the cleavage. Try it and you will know what I mean. Sort of hunch your shoulders forward and bend and you should feel it.

It was brought to my attention as I had a slight uptake there on a PET scan and the specialist said that was what he thought caused it. It has never been a problem. Hope the same for you.

Always good to check, but often there is a normal explanation - it is just something new to us.

I agree with Steph... get it checked out just to make sure.

I am also curious as to why it only shows up on the MRI and the three other types of imaging, ct, bone scan and pet scan show nothing. Three to one; I'd say the odd are in your favor!

Hugs,
Karen

Thank you Steph for that information. I'm bending down as you indicated and not feeling anything.

I will make the appointment to the ortho onc. It's always so scary to see another doc for something else.

Karenann, my onc explained that mri picks up any little things, false positives included. The pet ct and bone scan picks up cells with cancer activity.

Patty, my onc's office called the ortho onc to let im know I be calling in. but i need to make the appointment

This is very tiring. As you well know.

Will keep you informed. thank you for you answers.

XOXO
