Sex and Chemo

I read an interesting article yesterday at the oncologists office. It said that there is a chance of harming your partner if you have sex within 24 hours of a chemotherapy infusion....due to absorbtion or contact with body fluids... it was in a cancer magazine in the waiting room.....

I guess this is why they insist on a double flush of the toilets after people receiving chemo there use them...same idea, body fluids that are toxic

Double flush? Never heard that one.

Never heard of the double flush either but the no sex right after chemo sounds great to me! Maybe I can convince my hubby that it's no sex while you are chemo, that would even be better., would Herceptin alone count....lol..sherryg683

When I first met my infusion nurse...which by the way she is awesome! She went over everything and then some with me. And she DID tell me about the double flush. I was beginning to think it was just this place that did it as I had never heard it mentioned again until now.

As to the sex...to be honest...it was darned near impossible to even think about it while on chemo. http://www.her2support.org./vbulleti...lies/frown.gif

My girlfriend told me that her onco told her that if she was going to have sex with her husband within 24 hours of chemo, they should use a condom. She asked him if she had to use a condom if she had sex with someone other than her husband. Ha ha - he never mentioned it again.'

The double flush...they have signs posted in the restrooms of the chemo lab where I get my treatment.....this does not include Herceptin...we are single flushers!

I never heard of the double flush thing either--maybe it's more for people on the really wicked chemo combinations? I was only on Herceptin, Taxol and Carbo? And I still wanted plenty of sex during chemo--never thought about harm to my partner--must be too selfish :-) Actually, for a day or two after Herceptin (the only one I am still on) I don't feel that interested...I'd be really bummed if I totally lost the desire for sex!
