Watery Eyes, new treatment
For all who are suffering with the constant tearing, which seems to be a side effect of Herceptin, and also Xeloda, I have found something that is working so far. I asked the eye Dr Monday what I could do to stop the constant eye faucets...he said that when you are getting chemo (Xeloda and others), the cells on the surface of the eyes shed much quicker than usual and can cause dry eye, which makes the eyes water non stop to relubricate the eyes. These meds can also play havoc with our tear ducts....well, I had collagen tubes inserted in the lower tear ducts, (sounds awful but wasn't unbearable), and within 1 hoour no more tears! I jokingly asked the Dr if this collagen would remove the wrinkles too.....I am also on an eyedrop that has a steroid base, 1 drop 2x a day....well for the first time in 2 1/2 years, I'm kleenex free...I have no more tears....what a relief as the corners of my eyes were sore from wiping! Hopefully this will help someone else going through this.
