omega three/six
Dear All
I have read a lot about the omega three /six but I can't work out how myuch fish, evening primrose, flaxseed etc I should be taking - ie. in mg. Can someone help me. Thanks linda |
Linda,
I eat fish 2 times a week (I have some great tuna and salmon recipes I would be happy to share w/ you...just email me if you are interested) and include 1 TBS of flaxseed in the phytochemical shake I do each day). Take care and God bless. Rhonda |
would love to have your recipes
Hi Rhonda-
Just read your post and although I take Omega 3 daily I would love to have your recipes you mentioned. Thanks and take care |
Recipes
Here you go Irene and anyone else who is interested. I find a LOT of recipes on Allrecipe and Chicken of the Sea and may modify them a little. Also, I use "regular" Sherry instead of "cooking" Sherry as "cooking" has added salt and to me is not as "full bodied".
Steamed Tuna Fish: I use olive oil instead of vegetable oil. http://seafood.allrecipes.com/az/BrildTnFish.asp Easy Salmon: I use shiitake mushrooms http://seafood.allrecipes.com/az/BrildTnFish.asp Elegant Salmon Bake http://www.chickenofthesea.com/recip...1.aspx?did=114 Mexi Salmon Bake http://www.chickenofthesea.com/merma...l.aspx?did=379 Rhonda |
Please use the search engine and read the posts on flax, omega six, three, GLA etc if you have not done so.
There are not easy answers I'm afraid. DHA - I have seen a trial suggesting the body's uptake trails off at about 2 grams a day - but we are all indvidual. GLA - I have not seen anything on GLA dosage. In theory the body makes GLA, but some trials have shown it is benificial. It is less clear cut than the argument for increasing omega threes as it is on the omega six family side, and can produce inflamatory or mediating derivatives. It usually comes with omega six eg evening primrose oil also has high omega six, borage less, so the intake of six you are getting with the GLA should be accounted for in your balancing act. Essentially it is important to balance your three and six intake. There are lots of post on the subject on this site accessible through the search engine (above top right). Less is probably better but BALANCE is key. This take understanding to provide motivation and work in undestanding how much omega six most people take compared with omega three and why it COULD be a significant factor. There are no easy answers and no guarantees. I am sufficiently convinced to have changed my diet and am still reading up on the subject after six months if that helps. Fats are heap powerful agents in the body and it is best to discuss major diet changes with your advisors. RB |
