Side Effects & Taxol

Hi. I am in the midst of my 12 weekly treatments of taxol ... five down, seven to go!!! I have started to receive nepaugen shots because I have really low WBC counts. Is this normal? I had a very bad reaction to the shots (which is so weird because I took them during AC and I was fine). I had an enormous amount of pain for two days following the shots. I am just bummed because I had chemo again yesterday and my counts were still very low so I have to go back for more shots on Monday.

Hi Lisa,

I'm goin through the same treatment as you are. I just had my 4th treatment of Taxol/Herceptin and have 8 more. I've been lucky enough to not have the shot after the treatments like I did after my A/C too. Be sure to tell your onc. of your side effects and see if there is a differant shot or medicine they can give you to boost your wbc that you won't have any trouble with. Are you getting radiation after the Taxol or did you get a mascectomy? I had a lumpectomy and will start radiation in about 9 weeks. I just take it day by day and like you do the countdown to the end of treatment. Good luck with your treatment and I'll be prayin for you, you'll be done one week before me! God Bless!

I received neupogen shots and had very severe bone pain. My oncologist then switched me to neulasta shots. Still some bone pain but not as severe.

Hi. I did neulasta 1x. I found it a little uglier than chemo itself, but I think it may not have to be administered as aften as neupogen. Although my WBCs continue to bounce around, towards the end my doc said I'd be fine. Ask your onc, depending on your tx, and your health she may let you forego additional shots. BB
