Mechanisms of estrogen in promoting cell death in breast cancer discovered
More on estrogen acting against BC in certain circumstances.
RB http://www.xagena.it/news/medicinene...d7a56a836.html ABSTRACT A laboratory study has uncovered new details about how estrogen can activate natural pathways that kill certain breast cancer cells or tumors. The results raise the possibility that estrogen therapy may overcome resistance to certain breast cancer hormonal therapies. The study is published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. |
This is great information RB and I have also read that testosterone can do the same under certain situations. I have to wonder what an oncologist would say if he/she had a patient say, "well, now that tamoxifen and arimidex doesn't work....let's try estrogen"

just a word of warning--be careful in interpreting studies done on her2-bc cell line
this study was done in MCF7 cells which were not transfected with her2neu
Thus these findings should be interpreted as being in vitro, preclinical and in a totally different type of breast cancer which may or may not utilize the same pathways as estrogen positive her2neu breast cancer. |
