Herceptin reaction

Hi ladies,
I had my 3rd Herceptin treatment last Wednesday. I read hear a couple of days ago that you could have a runny nose from Herceptin and I do have that.
I have another question! In the last few days, and also several weeks ago, I have had tiny dots like a pimple, on the edge of my lips. They are just discolored, though not sticking out like a pimple. After realizing I had them before, I'm wondering if this could be a reaction from Herceptin, too.
Has anyone had this happen to them? It really looks like I smeared my lipstick. Not too attrictive looking either, but that's OK!

Thanks, for any input on this.

Maggie

Hi Maggie

Y'know, you got me thinking.... I have been on weekly Herceptin ever since the summer of 2003. Up to the middle of last year (I think in summer), I have been having a runny nose.

My mom tells me that it is a "late-developed" allergy that runs on her side of family. First, it was my maternal grandmother that developed a runny nose late in her life (I think in 50's), then my mother in her 40's, and now me in late 30's. To this day, we don't know what causes our runny noses.

Or could it be just a combination of SO many medications I had been put on since original diagnosis of breast cancer in May '03?....

I have no idea as to whether it is this so-called genetic allergy or some kind of reaction to Herceptin. I am not in pain, although it is very annoying to be needing tissues EVERYWHERE I go! Well Maggie, it might be a good time to look up an allergist and ask him/her about your symptoms. Even if it is a reaction to Herceptin, I think this would be tolerable, don't you think??

I get a runny nose on Herceptin. I get Herceptin every 3 weeks. I am due for a treatment this coming Friday and I am finally fine but it will start all over again on Friday.

I did not get the rash/pimples but Herceptin can cause allergic reactions so I wouldn't be surprised.

Best regards

Becky

Linda has gotten something similar but I can't remember what we narrowed it down to....it wasn't the herceptin though. What other meds are you on?

Becky and Al,

Thanks for your replies! The red spots are starting to fade now and the runny nose will eventually stop, too, till next time. I will gladly deal with these. They are VERY minor!
Al, I am not on any new meds!

I'm so glad I read this stuff. I was just ignoring my runny noses thinking it was just me. Glad I can blame it on the Herceptin. It's been a little irritating. I love these boards. It's nice to have others who are going through what you are. I just hate the fact that it's all about cancer!

Toril... You have pimples too?! The ones around my lips are gone now but I have about 4 on my chin and their pretty faded, now. Your the only other person to mention them. I thought I was unique! :( I'm glad your doing pretty well! Maggie
