Opinion on Treatment for Her2+ Stage 0 DCIS
I am asking this question for a lady who is triple positive (Her2+, ER+, PR+) with stage 0 Ductual Carcinoma Insitu, meaning it has not spread beyond the duct.
Is there anyone here that was diagnosed with a similiar situation, or know of someone who was? She and her oncologist are discussing what type of treatment, if any, could be given in this type of case. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you! |
My friend
with the same diagnosis in 1995 had a mastectomy and reconstruction. She had no chemo and Herceptin was not avail then although the primary tumor was neg for HER2. Treatment was Tamoxifin.
In 2000 she progressed with spots in her mast scar area and in the the ribs. These were found to be HER2 positive. She went on Herceptin and Navelbine and cleared that up. Shortly thereafter she had activity in lymph nodes under her arm on the surgery side. She has been taking Femara, Herceptin and now Xeloda and is doing much better with tumor markers now almost normal. She is in her early 70's but seems much younger. She does well on these treatments meaning that she feels pretty well and is able to travel and have good enough quality of life. This is just to show that even a diagnosis that seems like a "good" one for a cancer does not always stay in line and needs some treatment now. |
