supplements with radiation
Before I start my navalis radiation, I told my Dr. that I take supplements and if there were any he didn't want me to take on the radiation. He told me no antioxens. He said no co q10 no flaxseed no A ,C or E . In other words it sounds like he doesn't want me to take any supplements. I just thought I would pass this on to anyone considering radiation. Patty H

That is pretty typical. Usually with either chemo or radiation, the most the docs will let you take is a multivitamin/mineral type but thats it. Peace Becky |
Yes, I heard the same thing from my rad doc. This time on chemo, my med onc has ok'd a multiple, 1000mg Vit.C, and a B complex which I'll have to drop when I start Xeloda.

Hi Lolly, why do you have to drop the supplements while on Xeloda, first I have heard of this and I have been a supplement junkie since day one. Does it interfere with the strength of the drug and impair it?

Hi Lyn; Apparently one of the B vitamins, Folic Acid, can increase the side effects of Xeloda. My nurses have said he'll let me know which B vitamins I CAN take, as some are actually helpful in reducing the nerve damage, but apparently we'll be "cherry picking" which ones are ok. As far as other supplements, he feels mega doses of anti-oxidants while on chemo are counter productive, as anit-oxidants help the cells, including the CANCER CELLS, repair themselves. He prefers that I just eat healthy foods while on chemo, and when I'm not on chemo I can do the anti-oxidants again. I know this is a controversial subject with some, but this approach has worked pretty well for me so far, so I think he's on the right track at least as far as my situation is concerned. But, as you said in an earlier post, different strokes for different folks!

Juice Plus
Has anyone heard of the product called Juice Plus? Juice Plus is a supplement which contains a wide variety of nutritionally dense fruits, vegetables, and grains reduced to juice powder concentrate. Adults take 2 fruit capsules with water in the morning, then 2 vegetable capsules with water in the evening. Children take 1 of each.
When I was a patient at Cancer Treatment Centers of America they had Naturopathic Physicians who would prescribe supplements based on the type of cancer the patient was being treated for. Antioxidents, melatonin, and essential fatty acids were prescribed most often. There is so much conflicting opinions that it is hard to decide what to do. You certainly would not want to take something that would comprimise treatment. Love and Blessings, Lu Ann. |
Thanks Lolly, I have probably been feeding my cancer for nearly 8 years now, my theory of C not living in a healthy body might be right. I am sure when I used to get my swimming pool water tested I was given chemicals to send it off and then more to put it right, since I changed places there is hardly ever anything wrong with it, maybe same theory.
