Bone mets question (tailbone pain??)

What do bone mets feel like? I've been having sharp pain on and off for the last 3 days in my tailbone. It's not constant, on and off. I'm trying not to worry as I know it's only been 3 days, but is this a place that you can actually met to? I had a clean PET in August.

TIA! Rose

Rose, I don't have any experience with bone mets pain except what others who have it have told me: they usually say it's fairly constant. Also, sometimes pressure to the specific area brings on the pain. I guess you'll have to ask your oncologist for a scan to make sure. Keep us posted, ok? <3, Lolly

Hi Rose! I have had tailbone pain for months and was completely freaked out about it. I had an x-ray, a bone scan and finally an MRI and they all came back normal. Go figure. It does still hurt, particularly if I sit leaning back for any extended amount of time. For what it's worth, my onc didtell me it would be highly unusual for mets to appear in the tailbone. I would think if you had a clean PET, you are fine, but use the usual guidelines for all of us and if it still hurts in 2 weeks, mention it to your Dr. I still don't know what mine is, but as long as it's not cancer, I'll live with it!
Take Care

Hi Rose,

I tooooooo have had tail bone pain, mri of spine negative, went to an orthopedic surgeon, and he told me this was a fairly common complaint in women with desk jobs.....or any one sitting around alot...It was mearly an irrritation to the tailbone from lack of proper exercise. I tried a donut type pillow and upped the miles as recommended and with in 2 weeks the pain was gone

Thank you guys SO much - I knew I could count on you.

For now, I'm trying not to worry. I called the oncologist yesterday afternoon and her nurse talked to me for a while and doesn't think it's bone mets, because (a) it subsided when I took advil (which I took for my nipple tatoos I got yesterday!) b) it is sharp and comes and goes, and c) she'd never heard of anyone in 20 years with bone mets to the butt.

I guess I'm not as worried but I still question every ache and pain that sticks around for more than 48 hours. I hope this is just nothing. You ladies are all so incredible, thank you for your answers and support

Rose

Since your pain comes and goes, it is probably nothing. Bone pain from cancer is constant (or a constant ache) and doesn't even go away with tylenol or a similar otc pain killer.

I'm rooting for you.

Best wishes

Becky
